In May 2019, I started a personal quest to hop on the train towards random directions to go hiking. It was my mission to explore my home country and go search for the little nature we have. Only, I was able to hike once as two days after, I fractured my ankle.
The recovery was long and draining and 6 months post-surgery I left for my winter season. Came back, lockdown happened and soon after, I left again to bridge the summer on an island. When I came back once again, I treated myself to a pair of hiking shoes and picked up what I had started last year.
It’s been the second year in a row that my big summer hike got cancelled - last year because of the fracture, this year because of corona. I was bummed but you’ve got to make the best out of every situation. For the urge to go hiking was huge, I spent multiple hours in book stores looking for guides and maps and eventually started hopping on the train again. Yesterday I went to the Sonian Forest and oh my. I spent the whole day hiking by myself, eating the lunch I had packed the evening before, taking my time to capture the beautiful setting I was surrounded with and most importantly: took the chance to breathe and come to my senses.
At the end of the day, you could scrape me off the floor but I slept like a baby and that’s what it’s all about.
