"marketing strategy" is one of those phrases that means everything and nothing because it's used so w***y nilly.
here's how we describe it. your strategy is the line of the map. it's where your business is now, where you want it to get to, and the route between the two. the tactics are what's in your rucksack to help you get there: socials, seo, email, ads, the lot.
which is why "you should be on tiktok" "meta ads are the only way for new leads" "have you tried a flash mob" are almost never the right places to start. it's asking what to pack before anyone's figured out where you're going. you could be packing all wrong for the climate.
so the first hour of a strategy session isn't really about marketing. it's about your dream destination. how that looks, feels, smells. it's once we know where you want to go, we make sure your suitcase is correctly packed. no wasted budget on sunscreen in the artic.
and we love these days. working out where someone's business goes next is the best part of this job.
