Mentioning a topic once does not make your firm known for it. 🔍

Publish one post about business structuring and someone may find it useful.

But they are unlikely to remember your firm as the expert in business structuring.

That recognition comes from depth and consistency.

It means answering the full set of questions clients have around the topic: choosing the right structure, tax implications, asset protection, restructuring, succession and the risks of getting it wrong.

Over time, those connected pieces of content build a clear association between your firm and the expertise you want to be known for.

That is topical authority.

Keywords can help one page get found.

Topical authority helps your firm get recognised, remembered and trusted for something specific.

Choose the areas you want to own. Cover them properly. Keep showing up until the connection is clear.

If your website traffic is dropping, it might not be your marketing. It might be Google.

More and more people now get their answer straight from the top of the search results, in the AI-written summary, without clicking through to anyone's site. Those summaries already show on more than one in five Google searches, and when they appear, clicks to websites drop by around 60%.

So someone can research a topic, and form a view about who knows their stuff, without ever landing on your website.

The firms that win now are the ones the AI quotes in its answer. That means content clear and thorough enough to be picked up, on the topics you want to be known for.

Noticed fewer clicks but the same rankings? This is why.

The way your clients find you is changing in two ways:

One: search is becoming answers. People ask a question and get a response, not a list of links to compare.

Two: discovery is spreading across Google, YouTube, LinkedIn and AI assistants.

Together, these shifts change what it means to be visible online.

Ranking first on Google matters less if the answer people read never mentions your firm.

Your expertise needs to show up in the answers they receive, the content they discover, and the places they turn when they need help.

👉 Swipe through the two shifts and what they mean for professional firms.

Right now, 19 out of 20 of the clients you'll eventually win aren't looking for a firm like yours. 👀

It's called the 95-5 rule: at any moment, only about 5% of businesses are actually in the market for an accountant, a lawyer or an adviser. The other 95% aren't. They're happy where they are, or just not thinking about it yet.

Most firms spend everything chasing that 5%. But when the other 95% finally do need someone, they don't shop around from scratch. They go with the name they already know.

So showing up consistently, even when nobody's buying, is how you become that name.

Are you set up to win the clients who are ready today, or the ones who'll be ready next year?

Trust isn’t built in one post. It builds every time someone sees something useful from your firm. 🧱

One post gets noticed. The next makes your name feel familiar. Another shows how you think and what you know.

Over time, those small interactions add up.

Consistency is often undervalued because the result is rarely immediate. A firm posts a few times, sees no enquiries and stops before the work has had time to compound.

Real consistency isn’t about posting constantly. It’s about showing up with useful expertise, a clear point of view and a message people can recognise.

By the time someone needs your help, your firm may already feel familiar—and much easier to trust.

Every useful post adds another layer.

Do you know why clients choose their accountant?

Karbon’s research found that trust and perceived integrity were the leading reasons, while technology and client portals ranked last.

That gives accounting firms a clear marketing priority:

Build trust before the first conversation.

Share practical advice. Show the people behind the firm. Stay visible throughout the year. Give future clients enough evidence to feel confident choosing you.

Trust is what gets you chosen.

Two firms. Same qualifications, same fees. One gets the call. Why?

Trust. In professional services, nobody can see your work before they hire you. You can't test-drive tax advice or sample a legal strategy. So people aren't really choosing a service; they're choosing who they trust with their money, their business, or their family.

And that trust gets built long before anyone picks up the phone, through the content they read and the way your name keeps coming up.

By the time they call, they've mostly decided.

What's one thing your firm does that builds trust before a client ever gets in touch?

Why do capable firms keep losing work to competitors who are no better at the actual work?

Because by the time someone asks for a quote, they have often already decided which firms feel familiar, credible, and safe.

That decision starts long before the first conversation.

If your firm has not shown up before the need becomes urgent, it may never make the shortlist—no matter how good the advice is.

Firms that are remembered for something specific are more likely to be chosen for their expertise, approach, and fit.

We call this The Choice Loop:

1️⃣ Become visible
Stand out in a sea of sameness.

2️⃣ Become familiar
Show up consistently until future clients and referrers recognise your name.

3️⃣ Become trusted
Prove your expertise before anyone picks up the phone.

4️⃣ Become the obvious choice
Give people enough confidence to choose your firm before price becomes the only point of comparison.

Before reaching out to a professional firm, most people are looking for reassurance.

They want to know:

💭 Can these people help me?
💭 Have they solved similar problems before?
💭 Can I trust them?

That's why testimonials, reviews, and case studies are so powerful.

They provide independent proof that helps potential clients feel more confident about taking the next step.

👉 Swipe through to see why trust-building content plays such an important role in winning new business.

Is your firm relying on generic AI, causing clients to tune out?

AI can speed processes and automate routine tasks, but it can’t replace your voice, judgment, or the client stories and case details that build trust. Keep sharing perspectives only your team can offer.

💭 What’s one insight only your firm can offer? Maybe it’s local market knowledge, regulatory expertise, or outcome-driven stories that set you apart.

Share those instead of generic, AI-generated text that could come from any firm.
