I think a lot of people sit on their website for years because they assume the process is going to be a slog.
Big forms to fill in. Having to know exactly what you want. Feeling a bit silly because you don't.
It's genuinely not like that. My client called our first call a fun conversation, and that's the goal every single time. You show up as you, I ask the questions, and I pull out the stuff you can't quite put into words yourself.
If dread is the thing keeping you stuck, take this as your sign 🤍

Nearly every business owner I talk to says the same thing. "People keep telling me I'm too expensive."
And straight away they assume the fix is to drop the price.
I did the exact same thing for years.
My work was good. Better than good. But my website didn't say that. It looked like a business half the size of the one I was actually running.
So when someone flinched at my price, I flinched too. I dropped it. I over-explained it. I'd discount before anyone had even asked.
Took me way too long to work out the price was never the problem.
Nothing they'd seen up to that point made the price make sense. The website, the first impression, the whole feel of it... none of it matched the quality of the thing they were about to pay for.
That's not a pricing problem. That's a gap. The gap between how good you are and how good you look online.
Close the gap and the "you're a bit expensive" conversation mostly sorts itself out.

Referrals and a strong website aren't an either/or. But most business owners lean entirely on the first and completely neglect the second.
The problem is a referral can only take you as far as one person's memory and one person's network. Your website has no such limit. It reaches, it qualifies, and it works when you're nowhere near it.
If referrals are carrying your whole business right now, that's not a strength. It's a single point of failure.

Referrals are lovely. But lovely doesn't pay the bills when it goes quiet.
If the only way new people find you is someone else remembering to mention you, your growth isn't really yours to control.

Nothing motivates you like trying to avoid surgery.

So about two months ago a physio told me I’d probably need surgery on my knee again. (I tore my ACL two years ago.) Basically to get it straight enough to run properly.

I went and got a second opinion from my original physio and he was like, yeah maybe, but let’s not go there yet. Let’s really push this knee first and see how straight we can get it.

At that point there was a 4 degree gap between my bad knee and my good one. That’s how far off straight I still was. So that’s what I’ve been chipping away at ever since.

And I’ve been doing the work. EVERY DAY. All the stretches and exercises, the boring stuff no one sees.

I see the surgeon next week, and I’ve got physio tomorrow. Honestly I’m sitting here really hoping he tells me that gap has closed, because I’m pretty damn sure it is, or at least very close.

Now, insert typical LinkedIn bro voice here: “this whole thing has reminded me of what it’s like to run a business.” Haha, jokes.

But seriously... it kinda is.

That gap didn’t start closing because of one big effort. It’s closing because I kept showing up and did the unsexy, boring thing over and over, back when nothing looked like it was changing.

So this has reminded me to keep plugging away at the boring things, be consistent across all of it, and yes especially business, and maybe this can be a reminder for you too?

There’s a difference between a website that looks good and a website that actually works. I wish someone told people that before they paid for the pretty one.

Take Caitlin. Midwife, genuinely brilliant at what she does. She had this lovely looking website... and barely any enquiries coming through it. And she couldn’t work out why, because on the surface it looked completely fine.

The problem was there was nothing underneath it. No strategy, nothing that told you who she was or why you’d book her. It just sat there looking nice.

So we fixed that part. Sorted the strategy first, then built the site to actually say something. Now she’s booked out for the rest of the year and having to turn people away (not the worst problem to have).

Here’s why I’m telling you this. If your site looks fine but the enquiries just aren’t landing, that’s usually the gap. It looks the part, it’s just not doing the quiet work of convincing anyone to reach out.

I made a free calculator that shows you roughly what that’s costing you every month you leave it. It’s in my bio. Worst case? You find out you’re fine.
