Stunning

“Queen Quilt” was conceptualised by Ruth Nalmakarra and Gwen Warmbirrirr for the Langarra Bush Gallery weaving camp as a way of bringing communities, hands and skills into one shared work. It reflects on old and new ways, recalling a time before blankets, when people slept wrapped in paperbark, marking the cultural shifts that followed. Made queen-sized to honour women, the work pays tribute to the mothers, aunties, grandmothers and great-grandmothers who carried weaving knowledge across generations. Queen quilt embodies deep cultural intelligence, connecting people and Country by stitching past and present into a single, powerful artwork from Arnhem Land.
