I just wanted to let you know that I get it.

Yes I ran my first Black Friday sale as well this year, but I'm also a human and a buyer myself, and I know it can feel overwhelming at times. I noticed that the sales started SOOO early this year, across all categories. It felt like two full-on weeks of Black Friday rather than a 48-72 hour promo period.

Here’s 3 common things business owners get wrong about websites.

It’s a one and done exercise

What’s working right now on your website, might not work in a year’s time. Keep an eye on your website analytics to see what’s working in terms of click throughs, email subscriptions, and enquiries. Do regular audits of your site and ask yourself, if I was a visitor, could I easily find what I was looking for?

SEO especially, is an ongoing task - updating relevant keywords, descriptions, blog articles, link building and internal structure improvements take time.

It’s also important that your website reflects any changes you’ve made in your business, in terms of messaging, target market, funnels or offering suite, make updates as you make changes in your business.

It should be perfect to convert

Your website will never be perfect, but you can improve it over time. Don’t get caught up in the trap of trying to make your site perfect before you launch your offers. (Do however, test that your links, and other features work!)

If you build it they will come

Even if you did have the perfect website, you won’t instantly get clients and sales. It takes time to build awareness around your offers and expand your reach via organic and paid marketing. It takes time to see results via SEO too - either via search engines or platforms like pinterest.

Feeling burned by an investment you made? You’re not the only one.

The last 12 months has seen a shift towards better vetting and research in industries such as life and business coaching, tech services, courses and programs.

Now more than ever, it’s important to take care with the claims that we make online, and substantiate them with testimonials, real results, and investing in creating high quality customer experiences.

As more and more people leave the workforce to join the entrepreneurial space, I’m predicting that there will be greater regulations placed on many industries, which for the most part, have remained unregulated.

What will this mean for us? Perhaps the need to invest in ongoing accreditation, standard-level certification, and badges/endorsements from platform providers such as websites, SAAS and email marketing providers.

Looking to leverage your website to make more money? Here’s 5 ways you can make your website do the heavy lifting when it comes to sales.

Buy/book buttons

Don’t be coy about asking for the sale. Your customers won’t know what the next step is until you tell them. Make sure your call to action buttons are easy to find, and use them multiple times on your website pages. A good rule of thumb is every two mouse scrolls at least.

Footer Links

Keep important call to actions in your footer, so it’s the last thing your visitors see when they scroll to the bottom of the page. Include your lead capture form, repeat your book now link, or share your email subscribe form.

Create paid membership content

Have some amazing video tutorials, templates, photos or course content you’d like to offer as paid content? Consider offering access to membership pages as a one-off payment, or a recurring subscription. Platforms such as Wix and Squarespace have this capability available on their business plans.

Paid workshops

Have something you can share as a value packed tutorial? Offer it on your website as a live or pre-recorded workshop. If this is something you’re looking to do, I recommend using Wix. Wix has the ability to sell tickets to live online workshops.

Paid 1:1 sessions

Do you spend a lot of time answering the same questions on 1:1 discovery calls or client calls? Consider offering a paid 1:1 session that helps your ideal client through a problem they are experiencing now in their business or life. Again, I recommend wix to be able to do this, as Wix has the ability to add in an appointments booking function into a business plan.
