45 years of feeding Darwin 🥢

Happy Garden NT has been serving locals and visitors since 1981. Still family-run, still cooking those Chinese favourites—and the owner still eats the food here every day.

For some, it’s the takeaway they grew up with. For others, it’s a familiar table in Parap where the family gets together.

You can see the care before you even pick up the camera – the colours, the textures, the finishing touches. When chefs put this much thought into a dish, it gives us so much to work with.

Our job? Find the light, catch the details and do all that hard work justice.

DARWIN — we’re doing it. 💗

On Saturday 7 November, Dishin’ Up Darwin is taking over Pink Chopstix for CHOPSTIX & LIPSTIX — Pink for a Purpose.

And this isn’t going to be your usual sit-down fundraiser.

There’ll be roaming canapés from Pink Chopstix, drinks flowing from the bar, Shalom on the mic bringing the laughs and mischief, Teddy & Dana bringing the glitz, glamour, and fun, plus plenty more happening throughout the night.

Come with your girlfriends. Come with your partner. Come with a group. OR COME ALONE.
Really. You don’t need to know anyone in the room — we’ll make sure you’re welcomed into it.

Tickets are $90 + booking fee, with $20 from every ticket going directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, plus more opportunities to raise funds throughout the night.

This is about good food, great company, a lot of fun and a bigger purpose.

There’s a lot more behind Chow than a bowl of laksa.

For us, this is the part of Darwin hospitality we love telling — the people, the history and everything that happened before a venue became the place we know today.

Jason Hanna and TT’s story goes back years before Chow. They worked together, built businesses together and, like most long hospitality stories, there have been different venues, different partners and plenty of changes along the way.

Then came Chow.

Sonny — TT’s brother-in-law and a business partner in Chow from day one — had spent around 10 years working at Nirvana before coming across as the driving force in Chow’s kitchen.

And if you know Darwin laksa, you probably know what happened next. Three Golden Bowls and a whole lot of Darwin laksa history. 🏆🏆🏆

Hospitality isn’t easy. Trends change, businesses change, Darwin changes — then throw in cyclones and COVID for good measure. But when hospitality is in your blood, it’s pretty hard to walk away from it.

That’s why we wanted to tell this story.

Not just the story of Chow, but the people behind it. ❤️
