You heard it from the man of Instagram himself, the "30 Hashtags" era is officially over.
Instagram has confirmed they are capping hashtags at five per post. But before panicking - this is actually quite the win for quality over quantity (which I'm huge fan of).
For a long time, we’ve been told to fill our captions with as many tags as possible to "beat the algorithm." The truth? Instagram is leaning harder into SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). They want to know exactly what your post is about so they can show it to the right people. Big yay!
So cramming in generic tags like or actually confuses the system and can hurt your reach.
So now what? Here’s your new 5-tag game plan:
The Niche: What is the specific industry? (e.g., )
The Service: What are you actually showing? (e.g., )
The Location: Where are you? (e.g., )
The Target: Who is this for? (e.g., )
The Brand: Your unique business tag (e.g., ).
You can now stop chasing the "hashtag hack" and start focusing on content that actually resonates with your local audience.
That’s what moves the needle.
Do you have a go-to hashtag that you’ll never get rid of? Let me know xx
