The past week has been a special one for our team, with several events celebrating women across the manufacturing industry and the pathways being created for the next generation.

On Friday 6 March, Tom, Luke, Emma and Laila attended the Women in Manufacturing International Women’s Day Breakfast, where Laila was recognised with the Highly Commended Apprentice Award. We are incredibly proud to see her dedication and passion for the industry recognised.

Later that day we welcomed four students and a teacher from Mt Maria College Petrie, along with Melissa from the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development, as part of the Women in Manufacturing school tour program. The students toured our production floor, office and logistics areas, and spent time with Laila learning about what it’s like to be an apprentice in the print industry.

The week wrapped up on Wednesday 11 March at the International Women’s Day event hosted by Workforce Australia, where Emma joined a panel discussion on women in non-traditional roles. Laila also attended the event and was presented with a framed display featuring the You Can Make It – Career Book, including the front cover and the page highlighting her journey in the industry. The event celebrated the innovation, leadership and achievements of women who are breaking barriers and creating opportunities for future generations.

It’s been inspiring to be part of these conversations and initiatives that continue to encourage more women to explore careers in manufacturing.

Congratulations to Zahlee and our very own Laila on this fantastic recognition in the Women in Manufacturing Apprentice Awards.

We are thrilled to announce the winners of the Women in Manufacturing Apprentice Awards for 2026!

Congratulations to Zahlee Wheeler from Allweld Manufacturing for receiving the Leading Apprentice Award, and Laila Steven from Eckersley Print Group for receiving the Highly Commended Apprentice Award.

These two women have been recognised for their valuable contribution as apprentices working in the Queensland manufacturing industry.

The future of manufacturing is bright with apprentices like these.

Andy’s putting the heat press to work on some fresh Tough Gear Trading shirts, giving a great look at our new DTF setup in action.
