Google is very good at standing nearest the till when the money arrives.
When a customer says they found you on Google, they are describing the final thing they did. The influence may have started weeks earlier.
A mate mentioned you at a barbecue. One of your posts made the name familiar. Your website gave them enough confidence to call when the timing finally turned. Google logged the search. It could not log the barbecue.
This matters when budget decisions follow last-click reports. The neatest line in the dashboard gets more money. Everything quieter gets cut. A few months later, fewer people are searching the name.
Ask every new customer two questions:
“Where did you first hear about us?”
“What made you call today?”
Record both. One tells you where trust began. The other tells you what unlocked it.
