My brother and I used to shoot home movies.
That was my first taste of marketing.
We didn't have much to work with –
Just an old handy cam and whatever else we could find around the house.
We’d stay up at night with all the lights off
We’d use PowerPoint to create animated titles
Then we’d record it for our rolling movie intro
One time I figured out how to edit music into it with a thousand different cables (still not sure how 🤣)
My mum thought we were crazy.
Maybe we were.
But looking back, he and I were just a couple of creative kids who loved making things.
I loved the process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something interesting or fun.
That's all marketing is, really.
When I got to uni I enrolled in computer science
I only chose it because my brother did too
About a year in I realised I hated it
That’s when I switched to marketing.
Since then, I’ve never looked back.
For the first time ever I was being asked to do the thing I'd always done naturally.
Be creative
Problem solve
Make people feel something
It still excites me now.
Some mornings I'll sit down and spend an hour just putting something together in Canva.
I'm not even that good at it.
But I still love it.
So why not?
When work still feels like play, that’s when you know you’re in the right place.
