There was plenty of collaboration and uniting as a Hinterland community tonight as Maleny Commerce and Montville Chamber of Commerce got together for a networking event. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the new clubhouse at the Maleny Golf Club and to find out more about Queensland's first International Dark Sky Reserve.

One-hour workshops sharpen business storytelling

Nambour businesses will be offered practical help to sharpen their messages, improve social media and even prepare for a crisis through four workshops in September.

Communication strategist and former journalist Chris McLoughlin said businesses were producing content in a crowded environment without always having a clear purpose.

“We’re bombarded with information,” he told the Nambour Chamber of Commerce Coffee Catch-up on August 6. “And we put things out there, but we don’t do it very strategically.”

Mr McLoughlin, who has 20 years’ experience across journalism, media relations and corporate communication, said each one-hour session would give participants a framework they could use in their business.

The series will cover Create a Story That Connects on September 8, DIY Social Media That Works on September 15, Getting Your Story Heard on September 22 and What to Say When Things Go Wrong on September 29.

The media session will help participants identify genuine news angles and draft a pitch, while the final workshop will cover first responses, updates and crisis communication plans.

All sessions will run from 8am to 9am at Cultivate the Chaos, 37 Howard Street, Nambour. The Nambour Chamber member price is $45 for each workshop.
