A fantastic response to the return of the writing competition at the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show. About 30 entries in total with nearly half being high school students. The overall champion was a high schooler for a stunning short story about two best friends and drugs in south east Asia. We had romances, thrillers, poems, opinion pieces and plenty more.

McLoughlin Media & Communication Solutions is proud to have sponsored this event and to see local creative and opinion writers get behind it. Chris found it a challenge to pick winners from the high quality entries.

You can read the stories in the pavilion this weekend. Take the time to read a couple while you are there.

At a recent 4556 Chamber of Commerce catch up, Chris took part in this video shoot about why buying local matters. The Sunshine Coast's annual Buy Local Day is coming up on June 27th. It's a day that promotes the importance of supporting businesses who are based in our local communities. Something we should do every day, so it's a joy to support highlighting it for this campaign.

Posting more content won’t solve a weak strategy.

You need clarity on where you’re showing up (or not showing up) and what your audience should understand about you.

Social media works best when it reflects a clear story. When we work with clients, we start with developing a clear story and strategically using it in your content.

Interested? Book a free initial online consultation to discuss your needs and how we could work together.

It was a good way to start the day at this morning’s Kawana Chamber of Commerce Kaffeine Konnect breakfast, where Chris somehow managed to win the hamper donated by local member and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie MP. Thankfully no declaration paperwork was required!

A highlight of the morning was hearing the Deputy Premier provide an update on local transport infrastructure investment, Olympic-related funding, and projects that are already starting across the region. There continues to be a strong sense of momentum around growth, connectivity and preparing the Sunshine Coast for the opportunities ahead.

It was also another valuable opportunity to connect with local business owners, community leaders and charity representatives from across the region.

Events like these are a strong reminder of the value of local networks and the role they play in sharing ideas, building relationships and supporting the wider community.

You could feel the optimism at the Maleny Commerce breakfast on Tuesday morning.

It was encouraging to hear discussion around increased visitor numbers heading toward the peak season for the Hinterland, and the positive flow-on effects that brings for local businesses, hospitality venues, accommodation providers and the wider community.

A highlight of the morning was Ivan Carlse from LINK Business Brokers Sunshine Coast speaking about preparing a business for sale. While selling a business might seem like something owners only think about at the end of the journey, many of the points raised were equally relevant to building a stronger, more sustainable business right now.

It was also great to hear from Maleny Rotary about planning underway for the 2027 Wood Expo, which continues to be an important event for the region and a strong example of community collaboration driving economic activity and visitation. While it has been held back for a year, it will be a huge positive for the region thanks to the organisation and planning around it.

Events like these are a good reminder that local business confidence is often built through connection, shared ideas and communities working together.

Chris caught up with other business owners from Perth to Sydney at a Bx - Business Networking Reimagined Australian online meeting this week. BX provides opportunities to network locally, nationally and globally (a Canadian visitor dropped into this session). If you want to expand your network and referrals, BX is a great option.
