I think we forget that your culture isn’t only affecting your employees. Your customers can see it too.

I’m currently looking at schools for Archie, and one of the things I notice straight away is how long the teachers and staff have been there.

Because if there’s constant turnover, I start asking questions.

Why are people leaving?

What’s happening behind the scenes?

And if I’m noticing that as a parent, your customers are noticing it in businesses too.

When the person they dealt with last time has left.

Then the next person leaves.

Then someone new has to learn their account all over again.

It doesn’t only cost you money to replace good people.

It can start costing you trust with your customers too.

I sat down with Pip from Premier Team Building to talk about culture, leadership, why good people leave and what businesses can do differently.

And his episode is a bloody good one.

There’s a reason Pip cares so deeply about the way people feel at work.

It comes from lived experience.

Earlier in his career, Pip experienced a workplace culture that had an enormous impact on him personally.

Moving to Australia marked a new chapter.

He was happier, healthier and made a decision that became foundational to the work he does today:

Create workplaces where people can thrive.

For himself. For the people around him. And now, for the leaders and teams he works with.

That’s what I loved about this part of our conversation.

You can hear how much Pip genuinely cares about the human being behind the job title.

Because culture reaches far beyond what happens between 9 and 5.

It shapes how people feel, how they show up, how they lead and what they take home with them at the end of the day.

And Pip has made it a huge part of his work to help businesses get that right.

🎙️ Pip’s episode drops Tuesday 15 September.

Losing one employee could cost your business at least $80,000.

That got my attention 😅

I sat down with Pip, a leadership and culture coach, and we got into what workplace culture actually costs a business when it’s not working.

Because we throw around words like “good culture” and “bad culture” all the time.

But Pip has a different take:

There’s no such thing as good or bad culture. There’s only culture that’s fit for purpose.

And when it’s not?

People leave.

You lose knowledge, experience and momentum. You spend money recruiting and training someone new. And the impact can be a hell of a lot bigger than one person handing in their resignation.

Pip and I unpack all of this, leadership, teams and what culture actually looks like behind the buzzwords in his episode.

Episode drops Tuesday 15 September.

People bond to stories.

It’s one of the biggest reasons I started The 100 Stories Project.

I’m on a mission to help 100 people share theirs because people do business with people they like, relate to and ultimately believe in.

I sat down with Cody from The Pronto Junk Team recently and we talked about a hell of a lot more than business.

We talked about losing his dad. Addiction. Recovery. Fatherhood. Becoming someone he’s proud of.

And this happens every time I sit down with one of our incredible business owners.

We connect.

Definitely not to manufacture perfect pieces of “content”.

Simply because we’re having a real conversation.

We find the bits we have in common.
The experiences we recognise in each other.
The things that make you go, wow, me too.

And the person watching gets to do the same.

They don’t just learn what you do.

They get to know you.

That’s why I think our stories have such a huge place in business.

Your expertise gives people a reason to respect what you know.

Your stories give them a reason to connect with the person behind it.

And I want to capture more of them.

If you have a story you want to share and you’d love to be part of The 100 Stories Project, COMMENT 100

Recovery isn’t always a straight line.

Cody spoke really openly about addiction, relapse and something I think is important to hear:

A relapse doesn’t mean all the progress before it disappeared.

For Cody, part of recovery has been getting better at recognising the cycle.

Knowing the signs.

Understanding what pulls him back there.

And if he does slip, getting himself back to reality and asking for help faster than he might have before.

That, to him, is still progress.

But there was another part of this conversation that mattered.

Taking ownership.

Cody talks about reaching the point where he had to acknowledge that nobody else could make the changes for him.

People could love him.

Support him.

Tell him they were worried.

Help him get professional support.

But ultimately, he had to decide that he wanted something different for his life.

And he needed a reason strong enough to keep choosing it.

For Cody, a huge part of that reason became his family.

This is one of the more vulnerable parts of our conversation, and I’m really grateful he was willing to talk about it so openly.

Because someone watching might be in the middle of their own recovery.

Or love someone who is.

And maybe they need to hear that a setback doesn’t have to mean giving up.

I remember turning up to this photoshoot knowing my company was going to close.

My husband and I had separated.

The business I’d spent years building wasn’t going to continue.

And I had no idea what I was going to build next.

The shoot had already been booked and I very nearly cancelled it.

What was the point?

They were supposed to be brand photos for a business that wasn’t going to exist anymore.

But I went anyway.

I remember thinking, maybe these photos can just be for me.

And looking back now, I’m so glad I did.

Because this has become one of my favourite shoots I’ve ever done.

Because of what they represent.

The company was closing. I wasn’t.

Everything I’d learned building businesses didn’t disappear because one of them ended.

My experience didn’t disappear.

My ideas didn’t disappear.

My ability to market, create, write, tell stories, spot opportunities and build something didn’t disappear.

It was all still mine.

I just didn’t know what I was going to do with it yet.

A few years later, I’ve built again.

This time, I’ve built a business around the thing I probably should have backed myself for a lot earlier.

Me.

My thinking. My experience. My ideas. My stories. The work I know I’m bloody good at.

I’m a Marketing Coach.

I’ve built The 100 Stories Project & opening my own podcast studio.

And now I’ve built AUTHORITY™, a mastermind that helps other experts do something I understand on a very personal level:

Become known for what you know.

Because businesses change.

Careers change.

Relationships change.

Offers change.

Entire chapters of your life can close.

But what you know doesn’t disappear with them.

Your experience comes with you.

And when you’ve spent years getting good at something, there’s enormous value in capturing that knowledge, putting your name on it and building a body of work around it.

I didn’t know any of that was coming when I stood in front of the camera that day.

I just knew I wanted the photos for me.

Turns out, they captured exactly what I needed them to.

Me.

Happy Father’s Day ❤️

There was a moment in my conversation with Cody that really stayed with me.

After losing his dad, Cody went through a period where he was drinking, taking drugs and living in a way that he knew, deep down, his dad wouldn’t have been proud of.

People around him would say, “Your dad would be so proud of you.”

But Cody knew at that point in his life, he wouldn’t have been.

So he started asking himself a different question…

If Dad was standing here right now, what would he be telling me?

At first, changing his life was about making his dad proud.

But somewhere along the way, that changed.

It became about making himself proud first.

And I think there’s something pretty special about sharing this part of Cody’s story on Father’s Day.

Because I have no doubt his dad would be incredibly proud of the man he’s become.

But perhaps even more importantly, Cody is proud of Cody.

And now, as a dad himself to little Hudson, he gets to be the man standing in front of his son.

The example & role model.

Someone Hudson can grow up watching and be proud of too.

And that started with Cody deciding to become someone he was proud of first.

We talk about all of this and a hell of a lot more in Cody’s episode.

Comment CODY and I’ll send it to you as soon as it drops.
