30-second test. Open ChatGPT and ask it three things, exactly like a customer would:

1️⃣ "Best [your service] in [your suburb]?"
2️⃣ "Recommend a reputable [your type of business] near [suburb]."
3️⃣ "Who should I see for [specific service] in [area]?"

If your name doesn't come up in any of them and a competitor's does you just watched money walk out the door in real time.

Guess who AI ignored (teardown)

I asked ChatGPT for the best cosmetic clinic in a Sydney suburb. One excellent clinic should have been top of the list. It wasn't mentioned at all.

A competitor down the road got named in every single answer. Similar treatments. Arguably weaker reviews. But the AI had "learned" the competitor and not them.

This is happening quietly to good businesses everywhere: you can have the better service and still lose the customer, because the AI simply never brings your name up.

The reason it happens is fixable. The reason most businesses stay invisible is that nobody told them it was happening.

"Just Google it" is quietly dying.

A growing share of people now ask an AI assistant instead of scrolling a search page. They ask a question, get one recommendation, and act on it frequently without visiting a single website.

Great if you're the business it names. Painful if you're not, because the old game (rank on Google, get clicks) isn't the only game anymore. Now there's a new question every business has to answer: when AI recommends someone in my field, is it me or my competitor?
