For context, when she took the throne, Stalin still ruled the Soviet Union. So how has she managed to secure the royal family through booms and busts, advise Commonwealth and world leaders on all issues including wars, disasters, constitutional crises and still managed comfort grieving people in times of national distress, among her many other programs and initiatives? With a quiet stoicism, devotion to her role and steadfast values. This approach won’t make your brand immune to criticism of course, and Queen Elizabeth II has experienced plenty of that. She shows us that from time to time, measured and sensible reforms are needed to ensure that her brands values are still reflective of her audience.

In a sense all branding is about building trust, it’s often defined as the willingness of the average consumer to rely on the ability of the brand to perform its stated function. During economic downturns, smart marketers know to refocus on the top four factors that build trust. 1) Brands need to deliver quality products and services. 2) Develop word of mouth through ratings and reviews. 3) Charge a fair price and be seen to deliver value for money, and 4) Quickly address customer service problems in ways that don’t just meet but surpass the customer expectations.
