September = RAP reporting time.

A little reminder for organisations with a Reconciliation Action Plan: annual reporting is part of your RAP deliverables too.

And if you’re looking at September thinking, how are we here already?, you’re probably not alone.

It’s a good time to look back at your RAP and check:
• What actions have been completed?
• What is still outstanding?
• Do you have evidence of what you’ve delivered?
• Are your working group and RAP Champions still actively involved?
• And most importantly, have you completed the reporting required by Reconciliation Australia?

Take stock of where you are, celebrate what you’ve achieved, identify the gaps and get the reporting done.

We’re M&T Marketing and we do RAPs.
We help businesses through the whole RAP journey, from developing your very first RAP, to reporting, progressing to your next RAP, writing, design and working through the Reconciliation Australia process.

So whether you’re thinking “we should probably start a RAP”, “our reporting is due”, or “what do we do after this RAP?”, we can help.

The cheapest bid isn't winning the way it used to.

A new financial year has reset the procurement landscape, and the rules are shifting under our feet.

From 2026, government buyers are weighting social value like never before. Local jobs. Ethical supply chains. Sustainability. Genuine partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. Queensland's new procurement policy spells it out, and the federal reforms are pulling in the same direction.

Here's what that means if you tender: price still matters, but it no longer carries the room on its own.

The bids that win now tell a fuller story - who you are, who you employ, how you give back, and what you stand for when no one's scoring you.

That's not a box to tick at the end. It's a thread that has to run honestly through the whole submission, because evaluators can tell the difference between a values statement and the real thing.

So before your next tender, ask yourself: are you writing to the lowest price, or to the difference your business actually makes?

If you're not sure how to put that on the page, that's exactly what we do. Let's talk.

"We'll sort the branding later."

I hear it a lot, and I totally understand it. When you're busy paying bills and only focus on winning work, a logo feels like a nice-to-have.

But it is also a trap. Your brand isn't working later; it's working right now - in every quote you send, every proposal a client remembers, every time someone Googles you.

One thing I've learnt over the years is that a strong brand, even a simple one, can change how people perceive your business. And perception matters. If your business looks established, professional and screams value, people are often prepared to pay more for what you do.

What's your brand saying about you when you're not in the room?

Honestly, no words needed.

But I’ll still say a few because... it’s Tatiana here writing. 😂

So proud of my little M&T team. We keep the standards high and we truly care about the work we put out.

Messages like this make all the late nights worth it.

One of the biggest mistakes businesses make with tenders is treating them like an exam. Answer every question, add as much information as possible (I call it “water”, all those filler words and paragraphs that make an answer longer but don’t actually add much, through some extra capability statements just for the sake of it), then submit and cross your fingers. 😅

But think about the person on the other side, the procurement team.
They might have 10 submissions to read and a scoring sheet in front of them, they don’t need more information to read, they need the right information, in the right place, answering exactly what they asked for.

And if you can anticipate what they need and answer that too? oh that's even better, you'll create the "aha" effect. Make it easy for them to say "YES".

Are your tender submissions easy to score?

"What's your ONE rule in design?" I asked Evelina, our amazing designer at M&T Marketing, while we were working on a presentation last week.

Less is more, she said.

Why?

Design isn't about how pretty something looks. It's about controlling where someone's eyes land first, second, and third. Every element on a page either guides that journey or gets in the way.

That's what these nine design principles are actually for.

Layout, balance, negative space, alignment, hierarchy, repetition, colour, contrast, and proportion.

If your branding/presentation/corporate documents feel cluttered, we help you cut through the noise at M&T Marketing.

Is your Sydney business still chasing keywords? It's time to think in clusters.

In 2026, SEO is no longer just about targeting individual keywords; it's about demonstrating expertise and building authority around the topics that matter to your audience.

A Content Cluster Strategy is one of the most powerful ways to do that. Here's how it works:
1.Pillar Page: one comprehensive guide on your core topic
2.Cluster Pages: individual articles diving deep into subtopics
3.Internal Links: connecting everything so Google (and your readers) can navigate seamlessly

Think of it like Sydney's train network: Central Station is your pillar page, the suburban lines are your cluster articles, and the tracks are your internal links.

Why does this matter? Google's quality systems value content that demonstrates experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (EEAT). Content clusters help you:
1.Strengthen topical authority over time.
2.Rank for long tail, high intent keywords
3.Guide search crawlers through your site's hierarchy

Pro tip for local businesses: Make your clusters work harder by weaving in Sydney specific data, NSW regulations, and local case studies.

Whether you're bidding for government contracts, offering professional services, or growing a local brand, a well structured content strategy is one of the most effective long-term SEO strategies for many businesses. A common mistake in tendering is treating compliance as the final step before submission.

In reality, compliance should be the first thing you review - and the last thing you check.

The most compelling solution, strongest case studies and most competitive pricing won't help if your submission fails to meet mandatory requirements.

That's why high-performing bid teams use structured review processes. They don't rely on a single proofread at the end. They build compliance checks throughout the bid lifecycle, ensuring requirements are addressed, evidence is provided and inconsistencies are identified before submission.

Good tendering isn't just about writing persuasive responses. It's about having a process that ensures every requirement is answered, every attachment is included and every claim is supported.

Because before evaluators score your submission, they first determine whether it's compliant.

And if it isn't, the rest rarely matters. Link - https://tendersandmarketing.com.au/blog/compliance-first-why-structured-review-processes-matter-in-tendering/

One of the biggest misconceptions in tendering?

That bids are won by great writing.

They're not. Or not always.

Winning bids usually start months before the tender is released.

The organisations that consistently win work have already invested time in understanding the client, building relationships, identifying pain points, gathering evidence of capability and refining their win strategy long before they begin writing.

By the time the tender lands they're not starting from scratch - they're validating and communicating a solution already shaped around the client's needs.

Good writing matters. Compliance matters. Presentation matters.

But the strongest tender responses are built on preparation, insight and positioning.

The writing is simply where all that work becomes visible.

What do you think has the biggest impact on bid success: writing quality or preparation before the tender is released? https://tendersandmarketing.com.au/blog/winning-bids-start-long-before-the-writing-begins/

📱 One social media post can make a bigger impact than you think.

Recently, one of our clients shared an interesting story with us. During a job interview, a candidate mentioned that they had checked the company's Instagram account and saw a post showing the team spending time together.

That simple, authentic post inspired them to apply because they wanted to work for a company with that kind of culture.

The post wasn't viral. It didn't generate thousands of likes or comments. But it reached the right person and influenced an important decision.

It's a great reminder that social media isn't just about reach, impressions, or engagement metrics. Behind every view is a real person — a potential employee, client, partner, or decision-maker.

People connect with people.

If you've been wondering whether to share that authentic story, behind-the-scenes moment, or team update, consider posting it. You never know who might be watching and what impact it could have.
