If you haven't worked it out already, I love a day in the archives researching for a project! We have amazing state collections like State Library of Queensland and the Queensland State Archives, and national level collections held by places like the Archives of Australia and the National Library of Australia.

But don't forget the collections held by smaller, specialised or local groups! Often lovingly cared for solely by volunteers, there are many gems in these collections! I love these collections and how much effort is put into preserving them for the community.

Two beautiful but different ways of capturing the history of tje Cleveland Hotel (also known as Cassim's)...

The hotel was built around 1860, and has undergone many renovations during its time. The building still exists today.

I love this change of pace from the National Library of Australia! I usually post photography, but this is a fascinating pencil drawing called "view of Cleveland, Queensland, from the jetty".

Unfortunately, we don't know who drew the image. Only the artist's initials are signed on the back. I wonder if we will ever discover the answer!

If you are thinking of coming down to on this weekend, it will be interesting to compare with this drawing!

Did you know that a local worked at Rosemount Hospital during the First World War effort?

Flora Macartney, who lived at Ormiston House, worked as a masseuse at Rosemount Hospital - and here is a photo of the massage ward on a verandah at the hospital around 1918! Flora also became involved in farewells, concerts and other events at the hospital, all of which were essential to the war effort.

The wrapping... and the unwrapping! It is always so exciting opening up a new object or document in the archives! I also know how hard the volunteers in this archive to preserve their collection - such an amazing effort.

Those efforts are so important. It is such a privilege and thrill to hold such old objects that can tell us so much about the past.

Have you been to the Cleveland Showgrounds on recently? Check out this photo! Some photos aren't dated, but we can narrow dates by the people and objects in the image.

In this case, we have Pearl Rendell and James Henry Norman Price standing at the gate to the showgrounds with the sign "Norm Price Park" shown overhead. Such an interesting part of Redlands history!

Some things never change...

This looks like the perfect way to spend Sunday afternoon - sitting back under a picnic shelter and looking across Raby Bay to Cleveland Point. This was taken in 1940 and looks like a beautiful day!
