A new website live and a new album you are definitely going to want to check out. Such a joy working with Timothy Robinson & Mary-Lou Reed on this project and so beautiful to see this album launched. I remember seeing Tim and Mary-Lou play live way back when travel to Melbourne was simple and easy. I fell in love with their sound way back then. Stellar work from Desiree Delaloye on the cover art and website/shop. Thanks also to Annabella Khalu for her early work on the project. Best team ever.

Zoom and Security...a few notes. With a massive influx of new customers Zoom has recently come under fire for it's lax security measures. As a way to address the PR fall out they seem to have made some updated security measures like WAITING ROOMS and PASSWORDS protection for meetings.

What does this mean for you if you are a Zoom host?

1. You may find you are forced to put passwords on new meetings that you create but from what I can see people can still just use the link to get in unless they manually put the meeting number into a browser in which case they will be asked for a password...so it will still be relatively easy for people to get into a meeting.

2. You may find that you have people in waiting rooms in a 'holding bay' before they can come into a meeting. You can admit them all or one by one. This step can ensure you can vet the people coming into your meeting before they are in. It is a response to the ZOOM bombings that have been reported in the press where people come into meetings uninvited and share unwelcome content with participants by way of screenshare.

The security issues highlight the need to ensure that you are discerning with how you publicise your meeting links and especially don't use your personal meeting number for group meetings because you don't want your personal number to get into the wrong hands.

One way to do this is by using a booking software to make appointments with people before they get a link to the webinar...even if you are offering a free webinar.

Ok, while it seems kind of scary to put your password into a website to send it to someone, it is way more scary putting your password directly in the body of an email where it will be stored on the recipients computer indefinitely. Here is a cool site for sharing passwords without the risk that they will sit exposed in someone's email forever: https://quickforget.com/ (Made by the people who make Wordpress.com). Thanks Dom Obrien for letting me know about this.

For example, you can send a username through email, save a password with us, and feel comfortable sharing user credentials because all the information is not in a single location.

Beware the Sextortion Scam: So recently I have had a number of clients tell me that they have received an email with one of their private passwords in the subject line...the email then goes on to tell them that their camera has been hacked and footage of them watching p**n has been recorded...the sextortioner then demands Bitcoin lest the footage of them be released to the web. Since this was fortunately highly unlikely in regards to said clients (they are not the p**n viewing type) it was nevertheless quite scary for them to have their private password being sent in an email. And it was a great wake up call to get serious about security. It is even doubly scary if you use a similar easy to guess password for all your accounts. The fix? I set them up with a secure password management software and provided some training in how to use it. Now they can use unique passwords for their different accounts but also not have to remember them because they are stored securely on their computers and phones. If you have been using a password that is very similiar for a long time it is highly likely it is on a list of known passwords that have been circulating on the web for years. In the next post on Internet Security I will show you a site where you can check if your password has ever been leaked in a data breach.
