There’s something really special about watching people evolve over time.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Katherine through different chapters, businesses changing, ideas shifting, life unfolding and now seeing her step into this new chapter as an artist and opening her very first exhibition at the Albany Entertainment Centre.

When Katherine asked me to document this exhibition, she didn’t want traditional portraits or obvious “stand here and smile” moments. She wanted something that felt more like her work itself, layered, thoughtful, a little abstract and open to interpretation.

So rather than photographing the artist, I wanted to capture the feeling of moving through her world. The quiet moments. Reflections. Fragments. Texture. The spaces between.

I think some of my favourite stories sit in the moments people almost miss.

A little life update 🐙

For the next couple of weeks Clever Octopus will be a little quieter while I take some time away to focus on my health and recovery.

As someone who is usually creating, designing, photographing and spinning a hundred ideas at once, slowing down doesn’t come naturally, but I’m learning that rest is important too.

Current client projects will still be gently ticking along as I ease back in, with replies happening as I can, and new project bookings reopening from 26 June.

Thank you for your patience, kindness and continued support of this little business of mine. I’m looking forward to returning with a full cup and fresh creative energy.

The Story Threads visual identity is built around the concept that every person carries a story and that when these stories are shared, they interweave to form something richer, stronger, and deeply connected. The brand mark and supporting design system visually express this philosophy through simplicity, symbolism, and intentional imperfection.

The primary logo brings together two contrasting typographic styles to reflect the essence of Story Threads, a balance between structure and spontaneity, clarity and humanity. The word “Story” is set in a bold, confident typeface, representing the grounding foundation of storytelling and the strength and significance of lived experience. In contrast, “Threads” is intersected by a free-flowing, hand-drawn line that moves through the letters like a physical thread being pulled, stitched, or woven.

This organic line introduces a distinctly human presence, evoking the gesture of a hand guiding or tracing meaning through each narrative. Its subtle imperfections speak to authenticity and care, reinforcing that the stories shared are not polished constructs, but expressions of real people, real moments, and genuine emotion. The thread becomes a quiet symbol of connection, weaving memory, voice, and experience into a shared and evolving narrative tapestry.

Looking back on some of the brand work created through Clever Octopus over the years and feeling deeply grateful for the clients who’ve trusted me with their stories.

Every brand carries a human behind it. A why. A heartbeat.
Being able to translate that into something visual and meaningful will never stop feeling special to me.

My daughter Ebony is swimming laps for Laps for Life, raising funds and awareness for youth mental health.
And as her mum and as someone who has walked alongside mental health struggles both personally and within my family, this cause sits right at my heart.

Mental health isn’t something that happens “to other people”. It touches our kids. It touches our homes. It shapes how safe young people feel in the world and whether they feel seen, supported, and understood.

Ebony’s generation is carrying so much. Pressure. Expectation. Comparison. Anxiety. And the simple act of showing up, doing laps, and saying “this matters” is incredibly powerful.

I chose to donate through Clever Octopus because this business isn’t just about design or branding, it’s about people, stories, and care. It’s about using what we have to support things that truly matter.
