ANZAC Round Ellenbrook Rabbitohs vs South Perth Lions
On the 9th of May I had the privilege of covering the ANZAC Round clash between the Ellenbrook Rabbitohs and South Perth Lions.
Throughout the day I photographed four grades including Women’s League Tag, 3rd Grade, Val Murphy Trophy and First Grade, capturing not only the intensity of rugby league, but also the respect, mateship and community spirit that ANZAC Round represents.
As someone who has previously played the game, being on the sideline with a camera instead of out on the field gave me a completely different perspective of rugby league. It allowed me to appreciate the emotion, physicality and passion of the game in a new way, while capturing moments that players, clubs and families will be able to look back on for years to come.
Coming from a motorsport photography background, this was a very different environment for me, but one I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. The energy across every grade and the pride shown throughout the day made it an incredibly rewarding experience behind the camera.
ANZAC Round is always about more than just the game. It’s about remembering those who served and recognising the values of courage, sacrifice and unity that continue to bring communities together through sport.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for making me feel welcome throughout the day. Looking forward to capturing more rugby league moments in the future.
Lest We Forget.
