I was thinking the other day about what it was like when I started my graphic design business back in 2005, and wow… it was a very different world.

There was no social media. No Instagram. No Facebook for business. If you wanted clients, you had to go out and find them — and it was expensive. I advertised in the Yellow Pages, local newspapers, bridal magazines, and did big bridal expos. I also walked into shops and factories introducing myself and dropping off flyers, hoping they would call me when they needed a designer.

These days, businesses can start with an Instagram account, a website, and a laptop, which is amazing. It’s easier to start, but also a lot noisier — there are a lot more businesses now, which is why branding and standing out is so important.

21 years later, and I’ve seen so much change in this industry… but one thing hasn’t changed — good design and good branding will always matter.

I love creating beautiful signage that my clients can use for their shops, markets or expos to stand out amongst the crowd.

I had so much fun designing this cupcake business branding for Juliette from in Qld.

The brief was to use pink and teals with a feminine, floral vintage feel. I wanted it to feel like a feminine boutique bakery experience, than an every day bake shop. Juliette’s favourite flowers are peonies so I had to add a handdrawn illustration to her icon to add more of her to it. With beautiful flowing script and sophisticated font pairing, together with the soft stripes and borders, this all came out perfectly.

If you live in Qld and need cupcakes, you need to go and order from Juliette. Her floral cupcakes are a work of art and look too good to eat.

I can hardly believe I’m writing this… but today my design business turns 21 years old! 🎂✨

Twenty-one years of designing.
Creating.
Dreaming.
Helping incredible business owners bring their brands to life.

What started as a small creative spark — simply wanting to earn some money so I could stay home with my first baby — has grown into something so much bigger than I ever imagined.

And it’s all because of amazing people like you 💛

Starting my own business was the best decision I ever made. It meant I could do the school runs, attend reading days, volunteer in classrooms, and be present for all those little everyday moments that matter so much.
I built this business during nap times.
In the evenings after bedtime.
In the quiet hours when everyone else was asleep.

Fast forward 21 years… and my daughters are now 17 and almost 20 😭Where did that time go?!

Wild Seed Design has grown alongside them — and I wouldn’t change a single late night or early morning.
I absolutely love being a designer. I love creating brands that feel aligned and beautiful and meaningful. And I feel so grateful that this little idea turned into a 21-year career.

Here’s to 21 years… and at least another 15+ doing what I love 🥂✨
