There's a surge in bicycle riding in Australia, because of Covid19 gym closures. My content campaign for Sarz Sanctuary is tapping into this new bike-mania, delivering handy tips for riders on nutrition, relaxation and bike maintenance.
Riding a bike is an aerobic activity. What does that mean? Well, basically our bodies are generating energy by combining oxygen from our lungs with stored glucose. The glucose comes from carbohydrate-rich foods like bread, rice and fruit. We breathe more heavily when we exercise aerobically because our lungs are working hard to supply the extra oxygen we need.
After we exercise, our bodies get busy building extra muscle in preparation for our next bout of activity. Our muscle tissue is built with protein. So, to improve our fitness, we need a steady intake of protein from foods like nuts, eggs, grains, meat, beans and dairy products.
Nutrition is not an exact science, because each individual’s body is unique, but we all need to have a balanced intake of protein and carbohydrates.
Our bodies are beautiful, finely tuned systems. If we exercise sensibly and eat well, they will do the rest and keep us healthy.
