Merry Christmas from Sydney!

For the past two years I've spent Christmas in minus degrees and with my family in Sweden which has been wonderful. But this year I could not be happier to finally be back down under... I sure have missed my second home! 🇦🇺

I'll be spending today with friends, enjoying all that this amazing city has to offer. ✨

However you are spending this day I hope it's filled with love and happiness!

It's November! Which here in Sweden means cold air, grey skies, thick jumpers and a whole lot of strong coffee. ☕️
.. Inspired by the content I create for one of my social media management clients EJ Fit where we do a "monthly check in" - I thought I'd steal this concept and start doing the same here. It's a great way of regularly sharing current thoughts, future plans and everything in between!

So, here are some of my reflections for this month of November 2021, for anyone mildly interested. 👇

🤗 One thing I'm excited about this month:
As square as it sounds, this month I'm excited about putting my head down and getting all of the work done! After a summer in Stockholm having way too much fun and thereafter, 4 amazing weeks in Italy, now I'm really enjoying having a proper routine and allocating most of my energy into my work. 👩🏼‍💻

🤔 One decision I need to make this month:
A big one - I have to decide about booking my flights back to Australia. Should I and if so, when and where? Sydney, Perth - or even somewhere else in the world?! I've come to find that being location independent is truly empowering and also truly confusing - with so many options and so many wants and needs, all this decision-making can be somewhat overwhelming...

🥰One thing I'm grateful for this month:
My family. (And not just this month, but every day!) If the past year and a half back in the mother country has showed me anything, it's how lucky I am to have my siblings, parents and relatives so close around me and their never-ending love and support. For sure I could not have done this business journey without them by my side.

And with that, I wish you a beautiful month ahead, wherever you are in the around the globe! 🌎

Yes, Instagram ads still work!

Are they massively successful right away? Not necessarily, and especially so since the start of this year with all the challenges of iOS14 tracking and privacy changes.

This particular Victoria-based client in the permanent makeup industry went from getting 0-5 new customers per month for many months, to now over 20 new client bookings per month since I started managing their instagram ads (and at $800aud received per booking, they are pretty happy!) 💰

But this did not happen overnight.

We started working together end March 2021, and as you can see from the graphic it took several months of testing and ad optimisation to really start seeing some good results. 📈

(... And looking at current results for October, it's our best month yet! 🤩)

So yes, social media advertising still works but it's important to have the right expectations... As they say, good things take time!

Below is a visual representation of two of the things I miss most about Australia:

☕️ The coffee (I'm a real sucker for the classic flat white and god do I crave it on a daily basis!) and;
🐶 My pooch Max (who's actually a Boston Terrier but the frenchy pictured is awfully cute too!)
.. I can't believe it's over 1.5 years ago now since I left the country I spent nearly all my adult life in, flying off thinking it would be a short temporary trip back to Europe when Covid hit in March 2020.

Well, it's nearly 2022 now and I'm still here in Sweden! 🤯

But as they say; everything has a silver lining if you look for it (aka work for it), and the past 18 months I've made so many positive changes within my business, such as creating stability, increased my confidence, learnt new skills, gained new clients and much more.

I feel positive, CALM and assertive about the future - such a great feeling, especially after years of turbulence. 🎢

But thing is for sure... I absolutely cannot wait to be back down under again... and it looks like that may be a reality in the not too distant future 🇦🇺

✨ 3-Year Milestone ✨

Today it's 1095 days or 3 years ago that I officially started working for myself and embarked on this 'laptop lifestyle'-journey!

Thus, writing this post from the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy feels especially fitting (and slightly surreal). 🇮🇹

The past year in business has been an interesting mix of challenges and changes, maybe above all a whole lot of persistence.

Some highlights include:

🎖 Rebranding to SagaSocial to 100% focus on my passion, social media
🎖 Moved into social media advertising and discovered that 'this is my jam'!
🎖 Started working with some fabulous new clients
🎖 Gave myself permission to slow down expectations and instead of constantly chase growth, enjoy where I'm currently at and a work/life balance

Looking forward to this coming year and all the things I will learn, change and accomplish... Whilst trusting the journey and enjoying the ride. 🎢

How about the irony of this:

I've been so tied up with my clients' social media work that I've completely neglected my own.... 🤭

But I guess it's a good place to be and of course client work comes first, always.

So the past few months have been full of client onboarding, client campaign setup and ongoing management work.

So much fun and most importantly; we're starting to get some nice results - but more on that in a future post!

These are some common errors I see time and time again when it comes businesses running their own facebook ads... And no wonder; they are easy mistakes to make if you don't know exactly what you are doing (and have had proper training)!

Let's take a closer look at each individual item:

🔗 Not setting up the Facebook Pixel - without the pixel you are unable to make the most of tracking, optimisation, retargeting and custom audiences which will no doubt effect the performance of your ads.

💥 Only using boosted posts - boosted post can be useful for increased post reach and brand awareness, but if you're looking for a return on ad spend and sales / leads, you really need to create structured campaigns in ads manager.

🏹 No remarketing strategy in place - no one (or at least very few) buys / converts after seeing just 1 facebook ad, because people are on facebook to be social, not to purchase things. That's why you must have a remarketing strategy in place and serve them several ads - this warms them up to your brand and offer.

👩‍🔬 Not testing and optimising ads - no doubt you've heard this before! Without testing, analysing and optimising your ads continuously, you're not going to be able to do more of what works and less of what doesn't work, which essentially drives up your ad spend cost.

❄️ Trying to sell to ice cold audiences - if someone has never met you before, greeting them with "Hi, buy my stuff now!" probably isn't going to go down too well. Yet that's what many do on facebook - no wonder their ads don't convert! That's why awareness of cold, warm and hot audiences and remarketing strategies is essential for ad success.

... Bit of light weekend reading!

I enrolled in an online university course at the start of the year to deepen my knowledge on all things digital marketing.

I haven't studied or written academic essays in many, many years so it's been a great mix of challenging and fun.

Digital marketing is such an exciting space because it is changing and evolving at an incredible pace. There are new concepts, strategies and entire platforms popping up literally on a daily basis... So us who work in this space need to constantly keep our finger on the pulse.

As Steve Jobs said; Learn continually... There's ALWAYS "one more thing" to learn.

This is true in life and certainly in digital marketing too 💫
