When briefing me for his new logo, Jason at recruitment agency Remarkable Talent gave me a fantastic outline of the business and its goals. I was inspired by key words in this outline - 'adaptable', 'agile', 'collaboration' and 'change'. These all led me to the idea of a catalyst.

A catalyst is a person who speeds change or action. But it is also a substance that causes or speeds a chemical reaction. So I used a stylised molecular structure as the basis of this design. The links between the molecules also serve as a symbol of another key theme from the business outline - that of networking.

Those following for a while will remember the painting I did of a Monaro back in 2024. The owner loved it so much he commissioned one of his other car - some sort of ute. I don't know cars, but apparently it's quite spiffy. 😆

One thing about being a graphic designer is that no two clients are exactly the same. So you develop the ability to learn quickly about an industry or product you previously knew nothing about, pull out the key features and show them in their best light. I think working on this painting put those skills into play as well. 🙂🎨

🌱 An elegant website design for local charity , inspired by the beautiful colours of the Adelaide Hills bushland.

Habitat For Nature are raising funds to purchase and protect a key property that is home to rare species of flora and fauna, so the website needed to include an eCommerce component, as well as links to donate.

This logo for Langhorne Creek Wine Region needed to double duty, both as a unique identity for this year's Wine Show and as a decorative graphic for collateral like the Wine Show Luncheon booklet.

Apart from using the Region's corporate colours, the rest was wide open. So I took my inspiration from the things that make the Langhorne Creek region unique - the flooding of the vines and the beautiful lake breezes.

I knew all that time spent wine tasting was not in vain! 😆

We are always told that a business needs an online presence. But the different options can be confusing. Who's got the money to go straight in with a huge website. And the whole thing can easily get shelved in the day-to-day of running a business. Trust me I know. 🙃

Meet The Gang is back! It's when I take a bit of time to get to know some of my amazing clients, or as I like to call them, the 😊

🧁What does your business do?
I make custom cakes and cupcakes for all celebrations with birthdays and weddings being the most popular events. I also curate treat boxes and desserts during holiday celebrations throughout the year for gifts and catering purposes.

🧁What makes your business unique?
All my designs are custom designed to your needs. From how many people you are catering for to your style and design dreams. I love being creative and pulling together different designs.

🧁What is your biggest business highlight so far?
My biggest highlight would be just seeing my dream of having a baking business and baking for others come to life. Baking for others and seeing their reaction to what I have made is the biggest reward for me.

🧁How has working with Powdermonkey Design helped your business?
Powdermonkey created my website shortly after I first started my business back in 2020. My website is a critical part of marketing and ordering for my clients. My ordering software is integrated into the website so people can place enquiries for custom cakes or select products during holidays for purchasing.

Powdermonkey also created a series of stickers which I use on my packaging and a guidance flyer which tells my clients how to travel with and store their products.

These are all key items to uplifting my business to the next level.

A bit more book design for you today - the YPO Gold yearbook for 25-26.

I love designing large documents like this. Using my old-school typesetting and page layout skills, as well as my knowledge of printing and pre-press is always a pleasure. But I have to admit, the cover is still the most fun! 😄

It's time to throw back to work from the archive - and today we are heading to 2005.

It was a time when a huge subdivision at Wallaroo was a brand new idea. 😆 By the looks of it, it was also a time when I felt the need to make everything an odd size. Even the business card in this promotional kit is not standard!

There's a lot more than one street there nowadays, but I still don't think they have filled that big blue square they had me mark out on the brochure. The GFC, I suppose.

When designing this website for legendary live music venue The Three Brothers Arms, I took inspiration from vintage blues posters, choosing grungey, old-school typefaces and decorative elements. ⭐

Combined with vibrant colours, great photography and my own hand-drawn illustrations, it's friendly, warm and memorable - just like The Three Brothers Arms.
