This week we are showing you how to remove the supports after the Moai tissue box is printed. All you need are some pliers and clippers.

What are supports for? These are printed to support overhang. The slicer software automatically adds in these for us. Sometimes there are areas where supports aren't needed but the slicer predicts them. If this happens, you can add in support blockers to save some filament.

We could've used support blockers to reduce the amount of supports printed but we forgot to use it 😅

Last week we shared a video of this Maoi tissue box. Now we would like to share a timelapse video of one being 3d printed. This is a slightly smaller version of last week's tissue box we posted. Total print time was 20 hours in gold PLA filament.

How does 3d printing work? Plastic filament is melted and squeezed through a hot nozzle. The nozzle then travels in the shape of the 3D model to build up the part, from the very bottom layer to the top layer. Each layer is 0.2mm thick! That's the thickness of 2 pieces of paper!

We 3d printed a tissue box! This Moai tissue box is 30cm tall and it took one FULL day to print.

This is another reason why we love 3d printing! We don't just use it for engineering prototyping, we also print out useful things that we use in our daily lives.
