YO&O is a psychology-first brand strategy and design studio, for the people building something that matters. We’re Your One and Only – a psychology-driven brand strategy and design studio creating brands for the sectors reshaping society. We design for tomorrow’s culture, combining behavioural psychology with cultural intelligence to create brands that feel inevitable to the people who matter most

. We work with changemakers at the intersection of health, equity and impact – from women’s health innovators and wellness tech pioneers, to neurodivergent inclusion advocates, conscious DTC founders, and nonprofits driving systemic change. Because the world doesn’t need more “pretty branding.” It needs brands that dismantle bias, design belonging, and open doors for progressive change.

Pretty brands are collapsing, and the branding is getting the blame.

It’s the only layer anyone can see. So it’s the only one that gets worked on… and the only one that cops it when nothing moves.

There are 5.
4 of them are behaviour.
Why people buy.
Why they come back.
What they say about you when you’re not in the room.

That’s the work nobody hands to anyone.
We can show you which of the 5 you’re missing.

Comment CONTAINER and we’ll send it over.

And yes, we’re exactly like this. Makes the creative process fun.

We constantly update how we run our internal processes. And we’ll be first to say we haven’t always got it right.

But a few years back I (Tara) realised this approach was shortcutting the time in our process for a bucketload of vital insight.

Most, if not all, of our best brand thinking has come out of a sidebar. The ones that would’ve been edited out by the client had we asked for a list of questions for them to answer.

Instead, we let the conversation run freely, guide it in the right direction, and almost ALWAYS find a core differentiation point.

While everyone is quick to streamline, it’s important we don’t override the areas that make the magic.

There’s a time and a place for a call out. We get it, but to consistently use a shame based approach is, quite frankly, ick.

We’ve been watching this pattern for a few years now and we think it’s sad. We know how buying motivation works, we use it, and there’s still a line. Especially right now, when things feel fragile for a lot of people.

Nobody’s audience is a room full of people who need to be schooled. They’re people having a hard year, doing their best with what they can actually see from where they’re standing.

We’d rather lift than pull the rug.

And yes, we’re quietly judging the people who do it.
So is everyone else.

That’s leaving a brand impression too, by the way. Most just don’t pick it up.

You find out when you try to sell something else.

Either they come with you or they don’t… that tells you what you actually built.

Episode’s in the bio.

Loyalty has shifted.
People aren’t loyal to what you sell anymore.
They’re loyal to what you stand for.

And most brands couldn’t tell you what associations they actually hold in the market or how they’re being perceived vs. what they intended.

That’s the gap, and it sits underneath the logo.

So, over the next few weeks I’m going to break it down layer by layer. If you want to get ahead comment CONTAINER or DM us the word.

Almost everyone hits us up asking for the same 3 things.
New logo, marketing strategy, content plan.

And 9/10 the thing they’ve asked for isn’t the thing that’ll fix it, because whatever’s actually going wrong is sitting a layer underneath.

There are 5 layers that shape how people experience you, and most brands have one that’s quietly broken. It’s rarely the one you’d bet on.

You can have a damn good visual identity and still get passed over, because looking good and being understood are 2 VERY different jobs and only one of them gets you chosen.

So we built it into something you can actually use.
5 layers, score yourself 1 to 5 on each, and whatever comes out lowest is where your cash money should go.

Comment CONTAINER and we’ll send it to you.

Coca-Cola just refreshed their visual identity across 200+ markets.

And the most interesting part is what they didn’t do
They didn’t redesign.
They didn’t rebrand.
They didn’t chase a new look.
They took everything that already made them Coke and turned it up.

In a world where AI can generate a new brand identity in 30 seconds, they bet on consistency. And that’s not about playing it safe... it’s brand discipline as a trust strategy.

Because right now, when nothing feels stable, the brands that stay the same are the ones people feel safe with.

Chopping and changing creates instability, and people won’t put their money behind something that feels uncertain.

We’re breaking down how Coke, Pizza Hut and Gap are all doing this right now (and the psychology underneath it) in this week’s DMT. Or hit the link in bio to listen to the recent podcast episode.

If you’re smashing out your marketing and nothing is moving, you’re yelling out a message (loudly) that people stopped believing.

That’s the foundation is showing.
Fix that first.
Then market.

We’re breaking it down in this week’s episode of Brand & Butter (link in bio)

The mere-exposure effect is one of the most powerful mechanisms in brand.

The more someone sees you, the more familiar you become. The more familiar, the more trusted. The more trusted, the more chosen.

BUT Mere-exposure doesn’t care whether the message is right. It just reinforces whatever you’re putting out.

So if your brand positioning is off, you’re not building trust. You’re building familiarity with the wrong thing.

You become really well known for something that doesn’t convert. Recognisable but not chosen… visible but not trusted.

And that’s harder to fix than being invisible. Because now your audience has already decided who you are. And that decision was made on a foundation you didn’t set intentionally.

Visibility is the megaphone… It’s not the foundation.

Get the underneath right first AND THEN let the exposure do its job.

Top of mind, tip of the tongue.
