In the realm of web development, a significant evolution is underway with the introduction of Interaction to Next Paint (INP). This advanced metric is poised to supersede First Input Delay (FID) by March 2024, marking a pivotal shift in how web page responsiveness is evaluated. INP extends beyond traditional metrics by meticulously measuring the latency for all user interactions within a page, thereby offering a holistic view of user experience throughout their engagement with the site.

💡 What is INP?
INP calculates the time from a user's interaction (like clicking or typing) to the moment the browser updates the display. This metric is crucial because 90% of a user's time on a page is after it loads, making continuous responsiveness vital. INP is unique as it considers all interactions during a visit, providing a single value representing the page's overall responsiveness.

📊 INP Scores:
Good: INP at or below 200 milliseconds.
Needs Improvement: Between 200 and 500 milliseconds.
Poor: Above 500 milliseconds.

🖥️ Why INP Matters?
INP ensures that web pages respond swiftly to user inputs, enhancing the user experience. A low INP score means a page consistently reacts quickly, maintaining user engagement and satisfaction.

👁️ Broader Implications:
By adopting INP, developers and businesses can significantly improve user experience, directly impacting user retention and satisfaction.

Check out my next post on ways to measure your website's INP and how to take action to optimise your site. Discover more here https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/05/introducing-inp

So excited and proud to announce I am sponsoring the Online Business of the Year in this year’s Australian Ladies in Business Initiative awards! Nothing I love more than supporting women in business, especially those working online.

is here. Meta’s new app to go up against Twitter.

Let’s just say, Elon isn’t too happy about it.

“It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter, than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram” -Elon Musk

Have you heard of the term the Internet of Things (IoT)?

Simply put, the IoT is the collective term for the connection of physical devices, vehicles, and even buildings to the internet, allowing them to communicate with each other and exchange data. Think your Apple Watch, Alexia, your cars navigation system, your phone.

These devices are equipped with sensors, software, and internet connectivity that enable them to collect and transmit data, which can be used to improve efficiency, enhance safety, and even personalise experiences.

In everyday life, the IoT can make a big difference. Imagine being able to remotely control your home's lighting and temperature, receive alerts when your fridge is running low on groceries, or track your fitness goals with real-time data.

Watch this space. As the number of connected devices continues to grow, we can expect even more innovations and advancements in fields like healthcare, transportation, and agriculture. The possibilities are endless.

Having a clickable phone number on your website is an important feature to turn views into calls. If it is hard to call you, there is a chance the customer will go elsewhere.

It’s very easy to make any text, button or call out on your website a clickable call element. Simply add the following command to the ‘link/url’ option on your website element that you would like as a click to call option.

tel:**********

(Replace the *** with your number)
Make sure you have no spaces in the number on your link.

Once saved test the element on your site to make sure it’s working as intended! Easy.

Have you audited your online profile recently? Details like, how do your customers find you, and when they do, what information are they getting?

Here’s one that often gets overlooked, but is one of the leading ways customers might be finding your business information. Introducing Apple Maps Places. Just like your business listing on Google maps, Apple maps have places. You can claim your profile and manage it, just like your Google business listing. (Even if you don’t use Apple products yourself)

Why is this important?
Apple Maps is the default maps browser for iPhone and Mac users. If they do a local search using these maps apps and your not there, you could potentially be missing out on business, your business details could be out of date, hours of operation or even location can be misleading to your customers, or they simply might not be able to find you.

You can update your details two ways, claim your Places profile here https://register.apple.com/placesonmaps/ or find your business and click on “report an issue” to request an update to your profile. Customers can also add photos and rate you here also.

Add it to your list for when you return for 2023, it’s an important one.

Also, while I’m at it. Have you set up two factor authentication for your social platforms? It’s time! 🔐

I’ve just spent a few days in Singapore working with the DigiMarCon team at their Southeast Asia conference. A fantastic two days learning about emerging trends and the newest technology in digital marketing across the APAC region.

I also got the chance to meet inspirational industry experts who are leading the way in digital marketing.

(Plus, managed to fit in a little bit of touristy stuff after the conference had wrapped for the day.)

Well worth the trip, I’ll be back next year!

Hike Marketing was created in 2018 by a mum of two living in Sydney. Her experience in working for multiple small businesses in the marketing and social media space gave her the knowledge and ability to help other small businesses. Understanding that small businesses rarely have the time to successfully execute their marketing plans or maintain their online profiles, and their time is best spent focusing on their services to their customer, what they do best!

“I know that we can make a real difference to the stability of small businesses, making their customers more engaged and loyal through delivering consistent, informative content from the small business and the on services they offer” – Amy

The name Hike Marketing was developed out of Amy’s love for hiking and the increase potential of our clients.

Thank you for taking the journey with us, we are so looking forward to working with you.
