The event focused on that the groundwater table in parts of Bangladesh's Barind region has fallen by nearly 20 metres over the past four decades, raising fresh concerns over the sustainability of irrigation and agricultural production in the country's northwest. Also they stressed the need to reduce dependence on groundwater by harvesting rainwater, restoring ponds and canals, and expanding water-efficient irrigation technologies.
