Today I had a meeting with a new client about a project.
We discussed the idea, goals, and how the design could help his brand grow. While discussing everything, I realized something again.
As designers, we often think design skill is the most important thing.
But in reality, another skill often decides whether you get the project or not.
📌 Communication.
Not just explaining your work, but communicating in a way that convinces the other person and helps them clearly see the value behind it.
A client doesn’t only buy a design.
They buy clarity, confidence, and trust.
And that trust comes from how well you communicate your ideas.
You may have a strong portfolio.
You may have years of experience.
But if you can clearly explain your thinking and help the client see the bigger picture, you stand out.
Design opens the door. Communication closes the deal. Every designer should work on this skill.
