📈 Purchase Event Match Quality Improved!

Another Meta tracking improvement completed for a client.

The Purchase Event Match Quality score increased from 7.8 → 9.3.

I optimized the Purchase event data being sent through Meta Pixel + Conversions API, focusing on better customer information, event parameters, and browser/server-side matching.

The goal was not just to increase a score, it was to help Meta better match purchases to real users, giving the ad platform stronger conversion signals for optimization and attribution.

A small tracking improvement can make a big difference in the quality of your advertising data.

🚨 Duplicate Purchase Tracking Issue Fixed

A recent WooCommerce client noticed a mismatch between actual website purchases and Meta Ads reporting.

→ Website Purchases: 13
→ Meta Ads Purchases: 15

After a detailed audit of GTM, Meta Pixel, Conversion API, browser/server events, and event deduplication, I identified the source of the duplicate Purchase events and fixed the issue.

Now the tracking data accurately reflects real purchases, helping the client make better advertising decisions.

Online Conversion Tracking vs. Offline Conversion Tracking for Google Ads

→ Online Conversion Tracking

When a user clicks your Google Ad and submits a Lead Form on your website, Google Ads records that Lead Submission as a Conversion.

This is called Online Conversion Tracking.

→ Offline Conversion Tracking

When a user clicks your Google Ad, submits a Lead Form, is later contacted by your Sales Team, and eventually becomes a Paying Customer, the final sale is imported from your CRM into Google Ads as an Offline Conversion.

This is called Offline Conversion Tracking.

──────────────────

Online Tracking tells you that a visitor successfully became a Lead

Offline Tracking tells you which Leads actually became Customers

──────────────────

If your sales cycle doesn't end on your website and instead continues via your CRM or Calls, or Sales Team, then Online Tracking alone isn't enough

By implementing Offline Tracking, G-Ads can optimize your campaigns based on the leads that actually become customers, rather than just who submit a form

Recently, a client came to me because their Meta Ads performance was struggling.

They already had Meta Pixel + Conversions API set up through a plugin.

At first glance, everything looked fine.

But after auditing their Meta Events Manager, I found a major issue:

👉 Purchase Event Coverage: Only 14%

That means only a small portion of their browser Purchase events were being properly covered by server-side events.

And this is something many advertisers miss:

Installing Pixel + CAPI doesn’t mean your tracking is actually working properly.

I audited:

→ Event Coverage
→ Event Match Quality
→ Event Deduplication
→ Event Parameters
→ Event ID
→ Browser + Server Event

After the audit, I started rebuilding and improving their tracking structure.

Because when Meta Ads performance is poor, don’t immediately blame the ads.

Sometimes, the real problem is the data Meta is receiving.

Before increasing your ad budget, audit your tracking infrastructure.

Stop Chasing a Perfect 10/10 EMQ Score on Meta Ads

A perfect EMQ score does NOT mean your tracking setup is perfect

And a lower EMQ score does NOT always mean something is broken

BUT Top-of-funnel events like:

→ PageView
→ ViewContent
→ AddToCart
→ InitiateCheckout
→ Button Click

Often happen before Meta receives enough customer information to identify the person.

So, seeing an EMQ score around 4–6 for these events can be completely normal.

The real concern is your bottom of funnel events.

But if your bottom-of-funnel events like Purchase/Lead are also below 7, then there’s likely a serious issue with your tracking setup

And when Meta cannot properly identify users, the algorithm struggles to optimize ads

So instead of obsessing over a perfect 10/10 EMQ, focus on what actually matters:

→ Better customer data
→ Stronger event matching
→ Accurate event parameters
→ Reliable Pixel + CAPI implementation

Don’t chase the score. Improve the data behind it.

STOP optimizing Google Ads before fixing your tracking.

Most businesses don’t have a traffic problem.

They have a data problem.

Google Ads can only optimize based on the conversion data it receives. And when that data is incomplete, your campaigns are making decisions with missing information.

* iOS users disappear
* Ad blockers prevent conversions from being captured
* Browsers restrict tracking scripts
* Important customer actions go unreported

Then business owners wonder why ROAS keeps dropping.

Over the past 2 years, I have fixed tracking for 350+ eCommerce and lead generation businesses.

The pattern is always similar:

• More accurate conversion data
• Better Google Ads optimization
• Lower cost per conversion
• Higher ROAS from the same budget

My tracking stack includes:

• Google Ads Enhanced Conversions
• GA4 Setup & Audits
• Server-Side Tracking
• Facebook Conversion API
• Custom Data Layers
• Shopify Checkout Tracking
• GTM Implementation

One client was losing a significant portion of their conversions because of browser restrictions.

After implementing server-side tracking, their reporting accuracy increased to 95%+

No new creatives.
No new campaigns.
No increased budget.

Just better data.

Before increasing your Google Ads budget, make sure you can trust your conversion data.

Want to know if tracking gaps are costing you sales?

I will review your setup and point out the tracking gaps I find.

Meta CAPI is NOT just another tracking tool.

So, why does it matter?

Because your browser can’t always capture every customer action.

iOS updates, ad blockers, browser limits, and cookie restrictions can make you lose valuable conversion data.

And when Meta gets less data, it has less information to work with.

Meta CAPI is NOT about:

• Depending only on browser tracking
• Losing conversions because of privacy changes
• Guessing which ads are actually working
• Missing important customer actions
• Wasting money because of poor tracking
• Thinking your Pixel is enough
• Ignoring server-side data
• Accepting incomplete data

Meta CAPI is about:

• Sending data from your server directly to Meta
• Sending more conversion data
• Reducing data loss from browser limits
• Giving Meta better information about your customers
• Helping your ads learn from better data
• Making better decisions with your ad budget
• Building a stronger tracking setup for the future
• Having more control over your own data

Think of it simply:

Better tracking → Better data → Better decisions.

Want to keep your Meta ads sharp and effective?

Setting up Meta CAPI is now the gold standard.

→ You get better data.
→ You make smarter ad decisions.
→ You stay ahead of every privacy update.

Your Google Ads Conversion Tracking is Lying

I have audited a lot of Google Ads accounts, and these are the 5 most common conversion tracking mistakes that lead to bad data, wasted budget, and poor campaign decisions.

1. Running ads without tracking

Running ads without tracking means your campaign is basically running blind

This leads to poor performance and higher ad costs

2. Duplicate (twice) conversion tracking

One customer makes 1 purchase...Google Ads records 2 or more conversions.

This usually happens when the thank-you page fires multiple times or when the same event is triggered more than once

3. Using multiple actions as one conversion goal

You’re tracking Add to Cart, Begin Checkout, and Purchase and marking all of them as “Primary Conversions”

This confuses the algorithm, but always keep your final action (Purchase or Lead) as the primary conversion

4. Using multiple tracking methods

When you set up tracking through Google Tag Manager and Apps or plugins, at the same time

This also creates duplicate (twice) conversion tracking, but always use one clean method

5. Importing GA4 events into Google Ads

When you use GA4 events as conversions in Google Ads, but without setting up native tracking

This also leads to inaccurate data due to different attribution models and tracking logic

If your Meta Event Match Quality (EMQ) score is below 7, you're giving Meta less data than it needs to find your customers.

Hold on, let me explain this clearly 👇

Imagine someone clicks your Meta Ads and visits your website/funnel

When that user makes a purchase, your website sends a Purchase event to Meta

Now Meta tries to identify who that user is

If your event only sends a standard Purchase event without users data

Then Meta has very little information to accurately match that user

But if your event also sends:

→ Email
→ Phone
→ First Name
→ Last Name
→ City
→ Country
→ State
→ Zip Code
→ External ID

Then Meta can confidently identify the user who clicked the ads

Before increasing your ad budget, make sure your tracking is sending the right data.
