Otl Aicher (1922–1991), a renowned German designer, was commissioned by Puma in the run-up to the 1984 Sarajevo and Los Angeles Olympics to develop their visual identity. He created drawings for a new Puma wordmark and a revised logo, featuring a leaping puma in a circle, inspired by geometric principles similar to his Lufthansa crane design. However, the collaboration ended abruptly after a failed meeting with Puma boss Armin Dassler, where Aicher rejected a 10,000 deutsche mark bribe, walked out, and the designs were never implemented.
