AC Machine ( 1 Phase I.M Motor)

Types of Single-Phase Motors
Single-phase induction motors use different starting mechanisms to create the necessary rotating field, including:
1) Split-phase motor: Uses a starting winding with a different impedance to create a phase difference.
2) Capacitor-start motor: Employs a capacitor in series with the starting winding to create a larger phase angle for higher starting torque.
3) Capacitor-run motor: Uses a capacitor permanently connected to the auxiliary winding to improve efficiency and power factor during operation.
4) Shaded-pole motor: Features a short-circuited "shaded" copper ring on each pole, which shifts the magnetic flux to create a weak rotating field for low-torque applications.

Electrical Machine:
AC Machine (1 Phase I.M Motor)

How it works (in brief)
1) Pulsating Magnetic Field: A single-phase AC current through the main winding creates a pulsating magnetic field.
2) Starting Torque: This pulsating field produces two oppositely rotating magnetic fields, resulting in equal and opposite torques that cancel each other out, meaning the motor doesn't start on its own.
3) Capacitor's Role: A capacitor is often connected in series with the auxiliary winding to create a phase shift. This phase-shifted current, when combined with the main winding's current, produces a rotating magnetic field, according to the double revolving field theory.
4) Rotor Induction: This rotating magnetic field induces a current in the rotor bars.
5) Lorentz Force & Torque: The interaction between the rotor's induced current and the stator's magnetic field produces a Lorentz force on the rotor conductors, causing it to rotate.
6) Self-Contained Operation: Once the motor reaches a certain speed, the auxiliary winding (and capacitor) can be disconnected, often by a centrifugal switch, and the motor continues to run on the main winding alone.

AC Machine (1 Phase I.M Motor)

A 1 Phase I.M Motor, or single-phase induction motor, is an asynchronous electric motor that operates on a single-phase AC power supply,
commonly found in homes and small businesses. It requires an auxiliary starting mechanism, such as a capacitor or special winding,
to create a rotating magnetic field for starting torque, as a single-phase supply alone produces only a pulsating field that can't self-start the motor.
These motors are characterized by their simplicity, affordability, and reliability for applications up to moderate horsepower.
