✅✅How Google Indexing Works – 7 Steps
1. Discovery — Google finds new/updated pages via sitemaps, internal links, backlinks, user signals, and other sources. Goal: add the URL to its crawl list.
2. Crawl Scheduling — Google decides when to crawl based on crawl budget, page importance, site health, change frequency, and robots.txt settings.
3. Crawling — Googlebot visits the page like a browser, checking HTTP status (200/404/500), robots.txt rules, and basic HTML. Common issues: crawl scheduled, blocked by robots.txt, 404, or server error.
4. Rendering — If the page uses JavaScript, Google renders it via WRS to see dynamic content, lazy-loaded elements, and scripts. ⚠️ This can be delayed and happens in a second wave.
5. Content Processing & Evaluation — Google analyzes text quality, keyword relevance, duplicate content, page structure, internal linking, and page size (⚠️ pages over 2MB may not be fully processed).
6. Indexing Decision — The most critical step. Page is either:
✅ Indexed – appears in search results
❌ Excluded – thin content, duplicate, low value, or soft 404
7. Looping — Google never stops. It continuously re-crawls, re-evaluates, and updates rankings. ⚠️ No re-crawl for ~130 days = risk of deindexing.
Key Formula:
🎯 Good content + Healthy site + Regular updates = Better indexing & rankings
