"How to Properly Add Images in WordPress (Step by Step)"
Adding images to WordPress is a straightforward process. Here's how you can do it properly:
Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard:
Access your WordPress admin panel by navigating to your website's URL followed by "/wp-admin" (e.g., https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin).
Navigate to Media Library:
In the WordPress dashboard, locate the "Media" tab in the left-hand menu and click on "Library." This is where all your media files, including images, are stored.
Upload Image:
Click on the "Add New" button at the top of the Media Library page. You can then either drag and drop your image files into the designated area or click the "Select Files" button to browse your computer and select the image you want to upload.
Image Details:
Once the image is uploaded, you'll be presented with a few options to provide details about the image:
Title: A descriptive title for the image.
Alt Text: This is important for accessibility and SEO. Describe the image briefly for people who can't see it.
Caption: An optional caption that can be displayed with the image.
Description: Additional information about the image.
Attachment Display Settings: Choose how you want the image to link and display.
Insert Image into Content:
After setting the image details, click the "Insert into post" button. This will close the media dialog and the image will be added to the media library.
Add Image to Post/Page:
Now, you can go to the post or page where you want to add the image. Use the visual editor by clicking on the "Visual" tab, and then click the "Add Media" button. This will open the media dialog where you can select the uploaded image from the Media Library.
Adjust Settings:
When inserting the image, you can adjust various settings:
Alignment: Choose how the image aligns with the text (left, center, right, none).
Size: Select the image size you want to use (thumbnail, medium, large, full size).
Link To: Decide whether clicking on the image leads to the image file or a custom URL.
Alt Text: You can edit the alt text again if needed.
Insert Image:
Once you've adjusted the settings, click the "Insert" button. The image will be added to your post or page at the location of your cursor.
Preview and Publish:
Preview your post or page to see how the image looks in the context of your content. If everything looks good, click the "Publish" or "Update" button to make your changes live.
Remember to optimize your images for web use by resizing and compressing them before uploading. Large images can slow down your website's loading speed. Additionally, using descriptive alt text and appropriate captions can improve accessibility and SEO for your content.
