Last week, I had the pleasure (and challenge) of applying for an exciting marketing manager position. I put my heart into a creative introduction video, showcasing my skills, experience, and passion. The feedback? They loved my energy, my expertise, my enthusiasm... but apparently, I’m “too old” for the team.

Too old at 48? Really? I’m only just getting started! If age is just a number, why does mine come with a stigma?

This experience has reminded me of something I’m deeply passionate about: confronting ageism head-on. It’s 2024, and women (and men) over 45 still face outdated stereotypes about career potential.

Here’s what I believe:
✨ Longevity is a gift. Life doesn’t stop after 40; it evolves, deepens, and flourishes.
✨ Experience is invaluable. With age comes perspective, resilience, and creativity that no textbook or trend can replicate.
✨ We are the longevity movement. Women are leading this charge, shattering glass ceilings (and stereotypes) left, right, and center.

To my fellow “older” trailblazers: You’re not “too old” to start something new. You’re not “past your prime.” You are, in fact, at the peak of your power.

And to any recruiters out there: Please don’t underestimate us. We’re not just here to keep up—we’re here to set the pace.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here, continuing to be fabulous, fearless, and ready for my next adventure. Because this is not the end of my career—it’s the start of an exciting new chapter.

Let’s keep pushing boundaries, rewriting the narrative, and showing the world what experience (and confidence) can do.

Never judge a book by its cover.

Recently, I released my new book “Fragments of Hope” and so many people have commented on how the cover of my book contrasts with the actual content. From the outside, people see glamour, sparkle, and all those superficial things - but on the inside “an honest and surprising memoir that reckons with the truth and shows that there is so much more to Fiona Harvey than you might believe.”

To get to where I am today, I had to be driven, fearless, and authentic but it was so important to me to also celebrate kindness, imagination and joy while building my business.

When I started Web-Fi, I wanted to combine all those things as CEO and create an inclusive and diverse company and community where everyone, particularly women and girls, could be their most powerful, authentic, fearless, imaginative, kind, and joyous selves.

Web-Fi’s vision is to spark joy and imagination around the world through inspirational and impactful storytelling and experiences.

This is why our values - Fearlessness, Authenticity, Imagination, Kindness and Joy - are so important to creating a company culture that works to ensure we work in an environment, and with leadership, that allows us to do our best work and encourages constant creativity and innovation.

If we don’t feel joy, imagination, and kindness while working fearlessly to achieve our vision, how can we convey that authentically to the outside world and to our consumers, clients, and partners?

We often talk about unicorns at Web-Fi. They of course represent glitter and sparkle, but they also represent magic, freedom and uniqueness. We celebrate all of our moments of achievement, success, kindness and joy as those special “unicorn” moments.
