The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese on the Niger, has suspended a priest, Ifunanya Maduka, over allegations of engaging in staged prophecy, popularly known by many as “arranged” prophecies.

In a letter dated April 27, 2026, currently circulating online, the Bishop on the Niger, Owen Nwokolo, announced Maduka’s suspension as Vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nteje, in Anambra State, for a period of six months without pay.

The Diocese said its decision followed “credible and verifiable reports” that the cleric allegedly orchestrated and manipulated prophetic acts by involving individuals he reportedly induced or paid, while presenting such actions as genuine manifestations.

PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES JOSEPH OLASUNKANMI TEGBE AS MINISTER OF POWER

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with the Constitution.

The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective office.

Mr Tegbe, from Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience spanning the public and private sectors.

He is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led wide-ranging initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance. He has also advised key government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

He is at present the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he is responsible for strengthening bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

The NCSP also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development in line with FOCAC objectives.

Mr Tegbe’s experience includes significant engagements within the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reform involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

His nomination is expected to strengthen further ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, enhance grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.

Mainoo signs new five-year Man Utd contract

Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract at Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over his future.

The 21-year-old, who joined United’s academy in 2014, has already made 98 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals, including in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City in 2024.

Mainoo fell out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim and had a request to leave on loan in August rejected.

He started just one game all season — the League Cup loss to Grimsby on penalties — under the Portuguese, who was sacked in January.

That led to growing speculation that the future of the boyhood United fan could lie away from Old Trafford.

But Mainoo has been rejuvenated under Michael Carrick, who was appointed as head coach until the end of the season after Amorim was fired.

The midfielder has started all but one game since then, playing a key role as United have climbed to third in the Premier League, all but securing a return to the Champions League.

“Manchester United has always been my home — this special club means everything to my family,” said Mainoo.

“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.”

He added: “We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, hailed Mainoo as one of the most “naturally gifted young footballers in the world”.

“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding academy system,” he said.

“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”

Mainoo has also regained his place in the England set-up under Thomas Tuchel, featuring in friendlies in March against Uruguay and Japan.

Supreme Court verdict settles PDP leadership crisis, says Wike

By
Olugbenga Ige

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the Thursday judgment of the Supreme Court has resolved the lingering leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party, insisting that the party remains united.

Addressing journalists at his residence in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed claims of divisions, maintaining that the court’s decision has brought clarity to the situation.

“The PDP is one. The judgment has put to rest reactions of factions within the party,” he said.

The apex court, in a split 3–2 decision, nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, which produced a leadership backed by Seyi Makinde.

In its majority judgment, the court ruled that the convention violated existing court orders that required the party to meet certain conditions before proceeding.

It also faulted the PDP for going ahead with the exercise despite those directives.

Wike also spoke on the situation within the African Democratic Congress, noting that its internal crisis remains unresolved following the court’s directive.

“The Supreme Court referred the ADC back to the Federal High Court. The ADC is still a problem,” he added.

While commenting on the broader political landscape, the FCT minister drew a distinction between political parties and individuals, expressing strong views about some actors.

“Not that I don’t like the party, I hate the individuals involved. I don’t like them. They are part of the people who have plunged Nigeria into problems,” Wike stated.

BREAKING: NASU, SSANU begin indefinite strike Friday

By
Deborah Tolu-Kolawole

Operations across federal universities and inter-university centres are set to be disrupted from Friday as the Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities confirmed the commencement of a nationwide strike.

The unions conveyed their decision in a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, citing the Federal Government’s failure to conclude ongoing renegotiations and present a fresh offer on allowances.

The letter, signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, said the strike would begin at midnight on May 1, 2026.

“We write to acknowledge receipt of your correspondence and to equally appreciate the Honourable Minister of Education for withdrawing the contentious letter,” the union leaders said, referring to the earlier circular on a 30 per cent increase in the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance.

“Despite this, the withdrawal did not resolve the core issues in dispute.

“The consensus outcome of the consultation is that our demand vis-à-vis the slow pace of the renegotiation process has not been met,” they said.

The unions added that no alternative proposal had been made to replace the withdrawn allowance.

“While the letter on the withdrawal of the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance is acknowledged, no new offer has been made to supersede the 30 per cent allowances contained in the withdrawn letter,” they stated.

According to the JAC, members had mandated the leadership to act if the government failed to conclude negotiations by April 30.

“In view of this, with the agreement not concluded as at 30th April 2026, and with no new offer, the strike action shall commence by 12am on May 1, 2026,” the letter read.

The unions said the industrial action became inevitable following what they described as the government’s inability to avert the crisis through meaningful engagement.

“We hereby inform the Federal Government… that as a result of the failure of Government to avert the strike by positively acceding to our demands, all members… will commence total and comprehensive strike action by Friday, May 1, 2026,” Adeyemi and Ibrahim added.

The strike is expected to halt administrative and support services in federal tertiary institutions, raising concerns over another round of disruptions in Nigeria’s university system, which has faced recurring industrial disputes in recent years.

🇧🇷🗣️ David Luiz: “It's funny, some people talk about how to win the Premier League, but they've never won it. Jamie Carragher never won the Premier League.

“I respect everyone’s opinion, but I have won many things in my career. Maybe he didn’t win as many as me.”

They talk and say, ‘This player is not right for this league’, yet I won the league. These people have forgotten the past."
