EL AÑA

Es la principal figura maligna de la mitología guaraní, es introducido por los primeros evangelizadores españoles en los territorios de las Misiones jesuíticas guaraníes, para enseñar el Catecismo dentro de las Reducciones, a fin de que los nativos guaraníes comprendieran con más facilidad las enseñanzas cristianas, es de ahí que una de las peores ofensas para los pueblos de habla guaraní es llamar a alguien AÑA MEMBY (hijo del diablo). En la fiesta grande o Arete Guasu, los Añas se hacen presentes entre las ramas de los árboles para ser recibidos por la población, este personaje con mucho sentido del humor lleva una máscara de cuero curtido engarzado con plumas.

El ABUELO CHIQUITANO es un personaje representativo de la Chiquitania que tiene el carácter alegre, llamativo y picaresco.
La danza del abuelo chiquitano tiene como principal elemento una máscara, elaborada artesanalmente tallando la raíz de árbol conocido como toco, varía de colores de acuerdo a la zona: blanco, rojo y negro en San José de Chiquitos y coloridas en Santiago de Chiquitos. La vestimenta lleva pañoleta, paichochises de semillas y una vara de madera.
