Throwback to Wednesday afternoon at Topaz, where we had the pleasure to host a Viña Almaviva Masterclass, conducted by Commercial Director Mr Felipe Feliù and SEA Ambassador Mrs Amy Tan for Cambodia Sommelier Association.
Taking CSA members through the Chilean Estate’s history and philosophy, the presentation featured a tasting of 3 wines: vintage 2019 of Epu, second label of Viña Almaviva, soon to be available in Cambodia, followed by Almaviva 2021 and Almaviva 2017, named “𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞“ by acclaimed wine critic 🏆

Almaviva 🇨🇱 official wine dinner with my wife, & Eddie at Stoked x Luen Heng 🇲🇾:

EPU 2021:
1st red is herbaceous, unripe with green capsicum 🫑 characteristics with sweetish finish that definitely can benefits from further cellaring 🙋🏿‍♂️

EPU 2020:
2nd red is more layered with complexity & dark chocolate that I preferred over the 2021 drinking side by side. Provided a glimpse of the grand vin (2020) that gonna served next!

Almaviva 2020:
Immediately elevated with the 1st grand vin with roasted bell peppers, smoke & charred meat that’s so inviting on the nose. Well balanced & delicious especially the 2nd & 3rd pour that it’s definitely my WOTN!

Almaviva 2019:
Capsicum, green with fresh bell pepper on the nose. It’s more lighter & elegant with so much freshness that it’s good to taste the difference across the vintages!

Almaviva 2018:
Biggest, boldest & nastiest 💣 among the night that I’m happy to revisit this legendary vintage (according to wine ambassadors). Clearly developed into a massive & structured wine that greets your palate with mouth coating tannins. Creamy, velvety & voluptuous with incredible amount of black fruit & acidity to balance up. Will turned into a polished 💎 in future! Lovely session with generous amount of pour from Luen Heng & Stoked (YH) 💯

Viña Almaviva: La Ópera Magna del Terroir Chileno en Puente Alto

El telón se levanta sobre un escenario donde la tierra, el clima y la visión humana dan vida a una melodía inconfundible. Mi propia obertura comenzó con el traslado desde de Las Condes, dejando atrás la modernidad vibrante del Santiago metropolitano. Un vehículo me esperaba para llevarme al corazón de Puente Alto, donde Viña Almaviva no es solo una bodega, sino un templo donde el arte del vino se orquesta en cuatro actos memorables, dignos de la pasión de "Las Bodas de Fígaro".

Mientras el paisaje urbano se desvanecía, la imponente y hermosa Cordillera de los Andes nevada comenzaba a dominar el horizonte, anunciando la cercanía a un ambiente de serena tranquilidad y paisajes sobrecogedores.

까쇼 65%, 까르미네르 23%, 까프 5%, 쁘띠베르도 5%, 메를로 2% 블랜딩, 진한 루비 컬러, 블랙베리, 베리류의 검붉은 과실, 바이올렛, 오크, 바닐라, 다크 초콜릿, 에스프레소, 삼나무, 허브, 후추, 향신료, 스파이시 등이 복합적임, 오픈 직후 엄청 고급진 향에 매료됨, 첫 잔은 칠레 특유의 피라진이 많이 느껴졌으나 금세 안정, 신선한 느낌, 적당한 산도에 풀바디, 매끄럽고 실키한 탄닌, 여운 긴 피니쉬, 복합미는 좋았으나 밸런스는 살짝 아쉬웠음, 맛있긴 했으나 가성비는 좀 의문
