His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen were conferred Honorary Doctoral degrees at a ceremony held at the Chulalongkorn University Auditorium and the Maha Chulalongkorn Building in Bangkok, Thailand today.
The citation for His Majesty, presented by Professor Dr Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Chulalongkorn University Council, recognised His Majesty's unwavering dedication to the well-being of Bhutanese people through sustainable development, disaster preparedness, royal development initiatives focused on youth, and steadfast support for democratic governance.
Professor Dr Surakiart Sathirathai highlighted His Majestyโs expansion of the royal Kidu tradition, the establishment of the Desuung volunteer forceโnow comprising nearly 50,000 membersโand the creation of Gelephu Mindfulness City, a visionary initiative that harmonises economic growth with mindfulness and environmental sustainability.
Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen received an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology and Anthropology in recognition of Her Majesty's devoted advocacy in health and well-being, equality, conservation, and sustainable development. The citation noted Her Majestyโs leadership in championing mental health support, environmental conservation, and the empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Chulalongkorn University also announced 10 scholarships for Bhutanese students, with five scholarships presented through each of Their Majesties.
Following the ceremony, Their Majesties paid respects before the portrait of King Chulalongkorn at the Maha Chulalongkorn Building and attended a luncheon hosted by the university. Their Majesties later proceeded to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital under the Thai Red Cross Society.
