Day 155-2026
This portion of the new highway between Sarteneja and Corozal sank into the water last year. For over a year, the road has been worked on trying to come up with a solution but each time Mother Nature wins and the road sinks away again. Finally, the decision has been made to build a bridge over the area. There has been talk of the bridge being done by February 2027 but dates can change often in Belize.
This morning we took our recent guest (the Girl 😊) back to the airport. Because of recent rains, this patch of road was impassable for our small crossover vehicle, so we took a long, rough back-road for part of the trip. On the way home, we heard that more marl had been added to the narrow crossing and a grader was nearby smoothing the road often to keep it useable. We took the risk and stayed on the highway and made it through! We anticipate some interesting drives over the next many months with the rainy season on its way and bridge construction starting. We will keep you posted if it gets real exciting!!
