PayPal just put a six-figure price tag on something many leaders still undervalue: the ROI of showing up online.

Because when a CEO is visible on platforms like LinkedIn, the business moves faster. Deals close more quickly. The right talent signs on. Trust builds with every authentic post.

This isn’t about vanity. It’s about influence. It’s about building trust in a way no ad campaign ever could.

So here’s the question: when your customers, partners, or future hires look you up online, what do they find? Silence? Or a leader who's voice is worth following?

Business Brands: We don’t need content strategists. ChatGPT will do!

Meanwhile, OpenAI: Hiring a Content Strategist for at US$350K/year.

The irony writes itself.

But for those of us who live and breathe this work, it’s not surprising. All it does is confirm what we’ve known all along: highly skilled content experts are still needed to use and get the job done.

People seem shocked that ChatGPT is hiring content strategists. But why wouldn’t it?

The platform itself was built on decades of human content. Every article, story, idea and insight shared online has been part of its training. AI didn’t build itself. Humans did. And the same goes for how it’s used today. Strategy, context and intent are still very much human contributions.

That’s why even ChatGPT needs content strategists.

AI can generate outputs but it can’t tell you why something matters, how it fits into the bigger picture or how to connect with the right audience at the right moment. That’s human work.

Without it, you just have words.

At The International Writer, we see this every day when working with C-suite leaders. AI tools help with efficiency, but it’s the human touch — the strategy, the story, the voice — that turns thought leadership into something that builds trust, influence and opportunity.

Even in the age of AI, creativity is one of the most sought after skills. And rightly so.

Does this surprise you or is it exactly what you expected?

Turns out I was onto something. Building the online personal brands of our clients is something I feel proud about every day. And I relish the opportunity to talk about it.
