September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Today we honour the survivors of - and those who didn't make it home from - the horrific residential school system. We recognize the ongoing trauma caused by the genocide perpetrated on the First Nations people of Turtle Island by settler Canadians. We acknowledge the continued damage that is being done to families and communities by the systemic racism and the marginalization of Indigenous peoples. We pledge to continue listening and learning, and to dismantle the mechanisms and policies that continue to hurt, oppress and kill First Nations people and communities.
