Last night, we sat in a packed Mary Irwin Theatre as Canadian-Danish puppeteer Ingrid Hansen (and baby Tyler) told stories by bringing objects to life.

We laughed along with hundreds of others as Hansen took us on a mesmeric one-woman journey that was, at times, sweet, weird and always thoroughly entertaining. 👏

Hansen’s sold-out show, Epidermis Circus, was part of the annual Living Things: Kelowna's International Arts Festival. We’ve been enthusiastic supporters of Living Things, both personally and professionally, since 2018. This small Kelowna-based international arts festival is something to look forward to in the depths of mid-winter when the daylight hours are short.

Living Things shows stay with you. They have a sticky quality that reaches across time, bubbling up throughout the year as little reminders of the power of the arts, creativity and connection. 🔥

We can't wait to see the rest of this year's shows, and we hope to see you there, too! See what's coming up at www.livingthingsfestival.com

Have you Heard About Harold? 🤔 It’s the messenger on a mission to promote arts and culture in the Central Okanagan!

Launched today, Heard About Harold is a new grassroots movement founded by the region’s arts and culture community. We’ve been truly honoured to be one of the founding partners and have had a blast working on this project alongside so many talented and passionate people. ✨

Many moons ago, long before By Jove Co. was born, sometime in 2011, we pitched a panel of local entrepreneurs on a platform to promote Kelowna’s music scene. We were still in our early 20s, had only been dating a short time, and, with the gift of hindsight, had very little idea what we were doing. 😅 Fast-forward to today, it has been a delight to use our time, passion and expertise to help drive Heard About Harold forward. 🙌

Starting next week, Heard About Harold will deliver a free weekly newsletter with recently announced and upcoming events directly to subscribers’ inboxes. If you want to know what’s happening in the Central Okanagan arts and culture scene, sign up at www.heardaboutharold.ca 🎉

We have BIG plans for the future, and you can be part of them. Our first goal is to reach 5,000 newsletter subscribers by the end of October. Early discussions of future phases have centred around a comprehensive website and database, a small print publication, and much more. However, further developments and adjustments will be based on feedback, data, and funding.

Sign up for the weekly newsletter at www.heardaboutharold.ca to get the latest new and upcoming events, so you’ll always know what’s happening! 🥳

Calling all parents of kids aged 9-13! Check out this Kids’ Cricket Camp, which launches later this month. 🏏

Our very own Vincent Jones is one of the volunteer coaches. The FUN five-week program will foster confidence, competence, character and compassion through the internationally beloved sport of cricket in a safe, all-inclusive environment. No experience necessary. The poster has more details. ⬇️ 😊

Want an experience that will blow your mind and leave you awe-struck? 🤯

🎟️ We have a pair of tickets for Macbeth this Friday evening, and they could be yours! 🎟️

This production from Ballet Kelowna is unlike anything I've experienced before. I saw it 2 years ago, and it has haunted my thoughts ever since. Whatever you have in your mind when you think "ballet," obliterate it immediately because I promise you it's not that.

This is Ballet Kelowna's first full-length commissioned work, and they hired the genius Alyssa Pires to choreograph it. This made her the first female Canadian choreographer in over 40 years to be commissioned by a Canadian ballet company to create a full-length work!

The performance starts at 7:30 PM. The seats aren't right beside ours, but they are pretty close, so we may be able to mingle a bit at intermission.

If you want to go, just post in the comments. We will pick a winner on Thursday at 6:30 PM!

What a fantastic day! We spent the day in the company of more than 250 awesome humans working in the region's not-for-profit sector. We learned loads, had some laughs, made new friends and connected with old ones. 🥰 🎉

One of our highlights? That we got to share some of our top insights on community building and social science through the examples set by the amazing Taylor Swift! A massive thank you to the generous humans who chose to share part of their day with us, and to the City of Kelowna for having us. We had a blast and we sincerely meant it when we said we'd do it again soon, only bigger and better. Stay tuned! 👀

Curious about what cool event we'll be at next? It just happens to be one of our favourite festivals of the year, Living Things: Kelowna's International Arts Festival! ✨

We love it because it's a huge dose of incredible art and performance, the likes of which you wouldn't expect to find in Kelowna. We've been to a LOT of shows over the years, but so many of the Living Things experiences have stuck in our memories, whether for their heart-wrenching look at the world or for the way they've made us laugh until we cry. It's a little bit weird, and we love it that way. 🤩

We've been proudly supporting this zany festival since 2018, and we're thrilled to be one of the sponsors for this year's edition. From January 20 to 28, you can witness the magical collaboration of local artists with talented performers all the way from Montréal, Vancouver, Madagascar, Romania, and Germany.

We're determined to be front-row spectators at as many mind-blowing performances as possible. Forget binge-watching The Nanny on Amazon for now (is that just us? 😅) - this is an experience you don't want to miss!

Ready to dive into the world of Living Things? Get all the details and secure your tickets at www.livingthingsfestival.com

See you at Living Things 2024!

Congratulations to Ryan and Edge Digital Media on the successful screening of "Because I Can” at the Rotary Centre for the Arts this evening. 📽️

A very powerful documentary about organ donation, human connection and kindness that has left us feeling inspired.

We're both registered to be organ donors, and if you're into it, you should sign up too. 📝

Our friend, Ryan, at Edge Digital Media, is screening a very special feature-length documentary at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on November 21! 🎬

12 years in the making, “Because I Can” is a profound documentary that follows the story of Shelley Hunt, the mother of two young boys from Penticton, BC, who co-founded a nationwide campaign for organ donation education after she discovered that she could help save a life. ❤️

"Because I Can" is an uplifting and inspirational story about the human condition. We can't wait to see how Ryan has applied his skills in telling this powerful story! 🤩

More info: Because I Can - Documentary Screening

Happening at the RCA on Tuesday, November 21, the documentary screening of "Because I Can"! Tickets at https://rotarycentreforthearts.com/events/event/160802/

“Because I Can” is a profound documentary that follows the story of Shelley Hunt, a mother of two young boys from Penticton, BC who cofounded a nationwide campaign of organ donation education after she discovered that she could save a life she never met. Aidyn was diagnosed with enlarged kidneys at 26 weeks in utero and was rushed into surgery after being induced at 36 weeks. At four months old, Aidyn was put on peritoneal dialysis for 12 hours every night before upgrading to hemodialysis treatment to remove the toxins and waste his kidneys could not. After approximately 350 days of dialysis, Aidyn was introduced to Shelly Hunt, Co-Founder of the Because I Can Project, a potential donor. Using footage from the present and past, Shelley poetically narrates her journey through the process that eventually saved Aidyn's life. "Because I Can" is an uplifting and inspirational story about the human condition, building a community and helping people as well as an educational look at our current situation.
