📝 FROM THE MINUTES

A look back at the July 10, 2026 Council Meeting

We’re catching up on a few items from the Council table. Here are some of the highlights from the Town of Lockeport’s July 10 meeting:

💰 Finance
Council reviewed $48,705.91 in invoices already paid. The Town’s monthly education contribution to the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education was reported to be lower than budgeted for 2026/27.

🏛️ Amalgamation Steering Committee
The Committee held its first meeting in Lockeport. Future meetings are expected to rotate between the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, Town of Shelburne and Town of Lockeport.

🇨🇦 Canada Day Committee
Councillor Candace Malik resigned from the Canada Day Committee. Council approved the appointment of Mayor Derek Amalfa to the committee.

🌐 Town Website
Council received an update that the Town’s website is getting closer to completion, with additional work still underway.

📢 LRHS Gym Temporary Closure‼️

Just a heads-up that the LRHS gym is closed to everyone until Friday, August 28 while floor maintenance is underway.

There is absolutely no access to the gym during this time.

🛝 Phase II of the Seacaps Playground Project could get underway as early as next week!

🚧 The playground will be closed during Phase II construction while the work is completed.
We’ll share more updates as they become available.

➡️ Sips & Slides hosted by Our House and partnership with Lockeport Town Market Roasters at Seacaps Playground 11AM-1PM

➡️ The “BiG BeacH MarKeT” LOCKePORT N.S. held outside the Lockeport Crescent Beach Centre 4-6:30PM

🔹️FRIDAY, AUGUST 21🔹️
➡️ Chair Yoga hosted by EarthMonkey Yoga with Tamara held at the Lockeport Legion by donation 10-11AM

🔹️SATURDAY, AUGUST 22🔹️
➡️ Lockeport Youth Soccer!
Free weekly Saturday sessions for kids of all ages. 10-11AM

➡️ Little Harbour and Area Hall presents the Harding Boys at 2PM! Tickets $15 at the door, advanced tickets available from Lydgate Lock, Stock and Barrel General Store

➡️ The Lockeport Tennis and Pickleball Club host Team Trivia held at the Lockeport Legion 7PM! $10 per person!

What a great year for the Lockeport Open Charity Golf Tournament! ⛳️

27 teams, 100+ players and over $4,600 raised for new hoops at Lockeport Elementary! 🏀👏

🎉 Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who made it possible!

Thank you again to all the participants and sponsors. We had a record year with 27 teams and over 100 players. Combined registration and hole sponsors means we were able to raise over $4,600 which will be donated to the LES Basketball Pad Project to buy new hoops.
