My sister and her wife had a baby in December. He is the cutest thing ever, and currently the center of my world.
When Daisy was pregnant, they got the terrible news that their landlord was selling their house, so with an 8-month pregnant wife and a full-time job, my sister found herself having 2 months to find a new home and move.
When you rent, you cannot control what your landlord does with your borrowed space.
If you weren’t affected by it, I’m sure you heard about the recent social media crash. Somewhere in the online world, there was a “technical issue” that caused millions of users to no longer have access to their accounts.
Social media is rented land. You don’t own anything you post, you have no control over who sees it, and if the Meta gods mess up a line of code, well, you might have seen the chaos that ensued.
Your newsletter, however, is that big, beautiful home you own. You get to decorate it however you like, and invite anyone you choose to visit.
Your people will meet you there weekly because they have asked to be there, and you have all the control over what you talk about, without anyone telling you what and when to post.
Right now, the Metaverse includes Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp. It’s possible that in the future, they may expand to include even more social media options. If these are your primary platforms, you need to look at diversifying how you reach your people. Getting on to a different platform will make sure that no one individual owns all your content. Remember; if you rent, you don’t control what the landlord does with your property.
Better yet, why don’t you take control and own it yourself by being consistent with your newsletter? If you want help or just to hear more, let's chat about it.
