The fall ushers in so many good things and one of them is the Telling Tales festival. I’ve been connected with this amazing event since its very first year and I’m very proud to serve on the board currently. Today I was the captain at the Book Swap and Sale and what a magical experience. A whole weekend l dedicated to the celebration and support of reading for all ages through Canadian authors and creators. This is one of the best weekends of all autumn. I’m so thrilled to be a part of it.

🍂 Falling Into It — No. 1

The last couple of years have been tough. There’s no particularly elegant way to say that. They just have.

Which might be why I find myself wanting to really embrace this fall — literally and figuratively.

The cooler air. The ridiculous colours. Sweaters coming back into rotation. Changing the things around my home. Making things. Cooking things. Noticing the light. That first morning when you step outside and think, ohhhh… there it is.

I’ve always loved the idea of fall as a kind of psychological new year. Maybe even more than January. There’s something about September and October that feels like a reset — a chance to shift gears, start something, return to something, or simply decide what you want more of in this next season.

And right now, I want more colour. More creativity. More noticing. More small things that make an ordinary day feel good.

So I’m leaning in.

Apparently starting with pumpkins, a slightly exuberant coleus and a wreath that refuses to believe pink isn’t a fall colour.

Which, frankly, feels about right. 🍁

Loving this sky and thinking about my sweet daddy, who we lost a year ago. As this harvest moon rose on the anniversary of his death, I celebrate him and all he meant to us. And he loved Neil Young, so there’s no other song that would do. You are now our man in the moon, Dad. ❤️ 💔 🌕

How it started ➡️ How it’s going ➡️ How it FINISHED💙

A tea towel. A pillow form. Some sewing math, a little head scratching, and eventually… a pillow I absolutely love.

I talk a lot about progress, not perfection when it comes to creativity. But I’m realizing that completion is part of the creative journey too. There’s something deeply satisfying about taking an idea from “I wonder if I could…” all the way to “Look! I did!”.

Is it perfect? Nope.
Does it make me ridiculously happy every time I see it on my couch? Absolutely.

And really, isn’t that the point?

Make the thing. Learn the things. Finish the thing. Enjoy the thing. 💙
