Sometimes I look at my pile of colorful artwork and wonder if it matters. In a world carrying so much grief, injustice, uncertainty, and heartbreak, bright colors can feel almost too small. Too simple. Too joyful.
But then I remember...
Light has never existed because darkness disappeared. It exists because someone chose to keep a candle burning.
I've come to believe that creating beauty is not turning away from suffering—it's resisting the idea that suffering gets the final word. Every brushstroke, every piece of art, every act of kindness is a quiet declaration that hope is still alive.
I'll never dim my light to match the darkness around me. I'll never stop believing in the deep goodness that lives within humanity, even when it's hard to find. I believe our greatest strength is not that we never break, but that we continue choosing love, compassion, creativity, and connection anyway.
Still... I don't always know how to show up. I wonder when to work quietly and when to scream. When to make art and when to make noise. When to grieve and when to celebrate. I suspect many of us are asking the same questions.
Maybe there isn't one right way.
Maybe we need the voices that roar and the hands that paint. The people who march and the people who mend. The ones who comfort, the ones who create, the ones who listen, and the ones who speak.
As we all find our way through this season, I hope we can offer one another grace. We're all carrying things no one else can fully see.
If my art brings a moment of peace, a smile, a memory, or simply reminds someone that beauty still exists, then it has done exactly what it was meant to do.
Your light has warmed me in ways you'll never know. I hope mine can warm you too.
Let's keep shining, not because the world is easy, but because it needs every bit of light we have to give.
