We thought it would be fun to share a bit about ourselves so that you could get to know us better :)
Name & Introduce Yourself :
Hi there !! I am Heather Doughty 🙂 I am a local Peterborough County girl; I grew up in a little community north of Buckhorn called Lakehurst - crazy coincidence; Aleisha; my dearest friend and co-host for this workshop lives in Lakehurst about 2 miles from the farm where I grew up! I now live in another rural community east of Keene with my hubby of 33 years; did I mention I was ancient.. lol. We have 3 grown kids and I have 2 amazing little grand-daughters. I love the outdoors; Mother Nature is the most incredible inspiration and I spend as much time outside as I can, walking, biking and camping. I also am a huge animal lover and currently am fur mom to 3 rather crazy canines .
How long have you been a photographer ?
I have had a love affair with photography since I was a child; but it always took a backseat to the "real jobs"; it was really just a side hustle that I enjoyed doing most of my life. I took the leap to full time photographer about 5 years ago and entered the wedding world 4 years ago; my biggest regret is not doing it sooner. Although I learned on film; I left it for digital many years ago and have had the amazingly inspirational, but deeply humbling journey or getting re-acquainted again. I love exploring and learning in my craft and discovering how my soul and voice can speak through a lens.
What are you passionate about in your photography ?
Oooh this is hard for me to put into words. I want my images to draw the viewer in; to make them feel what the image is saying to them.. I believe that our stories are our legacy and our connection to each other and photography allows me to share this the world. I use light to help me tell a story..and I feel that everything has a story ... you just have to open your soul to see it.
What is your favourite type of wedding to photograph ?
Home Weddings and Intimate Elopements.. I have shot so many this past year and I am seriously smitten. I can't begin to describe how exquisitely beautiful they are on so many levels beyond how the decor looks. The sheer intimacy and emotion between everyone there is so incredible. I adore them so much that from 2022 on that are the only wedding bookings I will accept.
What is your secret ninja skill that everyone would be surprised to know ( does not have to be photography related)
Ha !! I have a few .. but perhaps the craziest one is that I used to show cattle and could at one time actually groom a cow !! I also used to show purebred dogs. lol lol !!

We awthought it would be fun to share a bit about ourselves so that you could get to know us better.
Name & Introduce yourself :
Hey there I am Aleisha Boyd. Born and raised in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes. I grew up in a little town just outside the Peterborough area called Lakefield. I have younger twin brothers and amazing parents. My family was so close (in proximity even! I could walk to my grandparents through my backyard) growing up making family a super important part of my life. I now live in another little town called Buckhorn. I moved here with my husband 11 years ago this coming April. We have shared so many memories together in this home and now we are making memories with our two daughters and can’t wait to watch them grow up here.
How long have you been a photographer ?
I have been a photographer for 7 years, however that first year I wouldn’t call my first year of business. I was photographing all my fiends and family for free to build my portfolio while working 3 other jobs! (Supply teacher, waitress and makeup artist) If there was one piece of advice I could give a new photographer someone just starting out it would be to shoot, shoot, shoot as much as your can to learn as much as you can! There is one thing I know for sure about this business is that you are forever learning and evolving.
What are you passionate about in your photography?
Besides documenting the most amazing connections and memories for my clients I am most passionate about creating and maintaining relationships with my clients. By doing so I get the profound opportunity to watch my couples grow past their wedding days.
What is your favourite type of wedding to photograph?
I am a sucker for intimate weddings. You just have much more opportunity to see and feel the connections between the couple and their loved ones. Bonus if it is at their family cottage and lake side!
What is your secret ninja skill that everyone would be surprised to know ( does not have to be photography related)
I have a mean ability to calm people down and to make people feel super comfortable no matter what might be going on.

What is your style ? How do you know what your style is ? There are lots of categories: documentary, fine art, candid, directive; the list goes on and on; but how do you know which one you are and what if you enjoy shooting in several different ways ?
This is a tough topic and we will be deep diving into finding your own voice and style plus having the confidence to use it to attract the clients that you truly want.
Join Aleisha and Heather at our EVOLVE Workshop - Island Adventure on Thursday, June 10th at a rustic cottage on Long Island, Kasshabog Lake to spend time with fellow photogs as we discuss all things photography and participate in two portfolio building sessions.

Evolve Workshop - Island Adventure
Date: June 10, 2021
Location: A beautiful rustic cottage on Long Island, Kasshabog Lake
Time : meet at the boat launch for 10 am and then sail away to an epic day filled with conversations on all things photography plus 2 portfolio building sessions
Topics of Conversation will include: Posing vs Directing; Editing and Staying Consistent, Finding Your Style, Client Expectations and so many more. Use some of the images from your first portfolio building session to ask questions about and learn from and then take the day's information and apply it to your second golden hour portfolio building session.
Best part is hanging out with fellow photogs under the trees in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Hi there !! I am Heather and fully disclosure; I am epically bad at these bio pieces. So what can I tell you about me without sounding like an ad for a matchmaking site. My friends will tell you that I am a hippie at heart. I do feel a bit of a Janis Joplin soul ( I drive a VW Bug named Herbie), but maybe with a twist of Meryl Streep.
I am a wife and partner to the greatest man. We celebrated our 30 year anniversary with a vow renewal at the same venue; on the same day. It was epic and awesome and so absolutely perfect. I am a mom and a grandma. Yes; I am that old. Well at least in earth years; my soul feels about 31 and I can still do the same absolutely ridiculous; incredibly corny dance moves that I did at that age.

I love animals… all animals. I am fur-mom to a Weimaraner and two Chinese crested and if you want to see me cry show me one of those facebook videos or a Disney movie.
I am a lover of life. I love every exquisite, magical moment. I value every connection; the mystical bond that connects us to each other; it fascinates me and drives me to capture it. I believe in the beauty that exists in everyone. I love to laugh; the world needs more laughter. I love beautiful things that make me cry. I love nature; my hubby gave life back to a vintage trailer and we spend time together where there is no cell service, but lots of space to create memories. I believe in creativity; in pushing the limits. I love the human face; the stories a portrait can tell. We all have stories; we all need to share those stories. I love light; like really love it. Light can set a mood; underline a mood or be completely over the top and in your face; but it is the thread that joins every story.
Not sure if you can tell by now but photography is not my job; it’s driven by my soul and a yearning to create incredible stories of connection.
I am so epically excited to meet you and so pumped to see what you create.

How cute is this bunkie ?!! And how gorgeous is this location ??!! Just imagine not one but two creative portfolio sessions here.
Creative portfolio sessions are very important to the EVOLVE workshop conversations. The first session will become the foundation for the discussions for the day; ask questions about directing vs posing, on how to create connection with your clients, editing and staying consistent. Then try out new tips and tricks at the second session.

"Hi I am Aleisha!
I love living in the quiet countryside with my husband Matt and daughters Evelynne and May. As a little girl, my mom and I would sit on the front porch on a rainy day and listen to the rain and thunder. Now that I have my own front porch I still listen to thunderstorms and watch the rain I love experiencing this tradition with my daughters.
My love of natural beauty and the outdoors is woven into the images I take, which are simple and timeless. I focus on my couples– capturing their emotions and memories as they are experiencing them.
I cherish the lasting relationships that are built with all of my clients. I love LOVE and I can’t wait to meet and guide you in your photography journey!
