AI email solicitation could actually HARM your business 😵👎

Business owners and entrepreneurs know the struggle. Every day we receive emails from “real” businesses complimenting us on our website, our social media, our founder story, blah blah blah. 🙄

AI crawls your website and social profiles, then crafts a message targeting YOU. However, using companies that utilize AI mass email campaigns for soliciting new business is actually a crime - with a federal watchdog and potentially hefty fines! 💸

🇨🇦 In Canada, CASL (Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation) dictates how businesses can solicit new business from potential customers. And - newsflash - companies in Canada require prior consent before sending that email. 😵‍💫 Advertising can be expensive! 💸

And when those ads don’t perform - ouch. It can feel like wasted potential. 😓

First, remember, the longer an ad stays in the market, the more likely it is that people are being re-exposed to your message. Some things take time!

In social media’s pay-to-play system, we see a lot of ads. Too many, tbh. But if your ads aren’t generating clicks and leads, you may want to step back and look at the while picture. 🔎

It was an absolute pleasure to speak at the Canadian Association for Sport Heritage 2026 Conference, hosted by Alberta Sports Hall of Fame 🏒⚾️🏆

Our CEO Dylan spoke about the importance of being in command of your brand, and leaning on your brand as a way to inform your team on how to plan your marketing.

He also gave insights into current content trends, and details on how non-profit organizations can create and manage marketing campaigns. He ended with a discussion on donor relations, and how authentic content and story telling can go viral.

🤓 Let’s learn about GEO!

Generative Search Optimization has changed SEO (for better or for worse).

The big thing to remember is that on-page copy should resemble a spoken-word search or a conversational search instead of a quick Google search. 🗣️

Instead of targeting “Marketing in My City”, think about how someone would search for you via AI. They might say “Recommend a great boutique marketing agency that doesn’t charge retainers.” (That’s us btw 💁‍♀️)

But technical SEO still matters! Slow loading pages will nuke your search rankings and kill your leads 👎

FAQ pages can help by adding more relevance to potential AI searches - as long as it is quality copy!

🤖 AI is probably ruining your branding 🤦‍♀️

AI is a great tool in some aspects, but when it comes to branding, AI takes a big L. 👎

Let’s focus on one aspect - fonts. Generative AI generates an image, and it considers the words to be part of the image.

Go to reuse that font, and you’ll find it doesn’t exist, meaning you’ll have to get AI to make a new image. And guess what? That font will change. Over and over again.

That kills your branding. With no specific font or colour scheme, people can’t relate styles and themes back to you, which means you lose out against businesses that keep that stuff tightly guarded. You lose recognition. You become background noise. 🙈

Growing your social media following organically takes time, and requires strategy. But you don’t have to be a TikTok dancer to do it! Here are 3 tips businesses can use today to do better online.

1. Currently, carousels and video are the top performers. Focus on those! It doesn’t have to be elaborate - even a short video of your team smiling and waving is better than a single graphic!

2. Keep the QR codes OUT of your posts 🙅‍♀️

3. If you’re going to use AI, don’t ask it to generate a picture of your products or your team. Just post pictures of those products! It will do way better than some AI rendering. Your team doesn’t need to look animated - it’s easier to build trust with real human connection!
