'Shab' is a Persian word for night while 'Barat' in Arabic stands for salvation and forgiveness. Every year, Shab-e-Barat is observed on the night between the 14 and 15 of Sha'aban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. In Islam, it means the night of forgiveness, or Day of Atonement. It is considered to be the night when God forgives sinners.
The date of this night is also celebrated as the birthday of Muhammad al-Mahdi, who is commemorated as the twelfth imam of Muslims.
According to the Hadeeth, or the sayings of Prophet Muhammad, Shab-e-Barat is also the night when Allah gives His blessings to people for the year ahead. People wish each other “Shab-e-Barat Mubarak”
